Workplace Safety

Understaffed protective services. Take forever to respond to violent situations on hospital grounds.

Suggestions for improvement

  • As a unit manager, stand up for your unit and the ones you manage. Remember, as a manager, you are not above anyone, you work ALONGSIDE others. Improve staffing and stop cutting back on benefits. Understaffing is a huge deal and has become dangerous in critical care units. This year, they changed dental care from Cigna to a cheaper, largely not-taken-by-dentists Delta. Bonuses for techs have been denied yearly. There is no more accountability.

What I like about the company

Individual staff, non-administrative are incredibly supportive. Nurses are humble beings, as are many new doctors. Each unit has a familial air to it that doesn't translate to other units. Though, some other units are like battle zones amongst the employees.

What I dislike about the company

Unit managers are able to block employees from transferring to other units, causing an unhappy staff and general awkwardness. With the lack of staff, technology, and benefits, where is the money going? Oh yeah. The new hospital wing that won't be available for another 10 years. Also, parking is in Virginia. Bus ride takes less than 10 minutes, but drops you off at the edge of campus. Hospital employees go through another 10 minute walk, uphill to get to the hospital. No metro.

Suggestions for improvement

  • All managers should be trained to be advocates for their team. They should be trained that threats are not good for morale. They should learn how to keep up morale.

What I like about the company

Plenty of general training to provide quality assurance.

What I dislike about the company

Some managers do not advocate at all for their employees and threaten them with punishments.
