What I like

Having patients express gratitude when helping them out. Open communication with staff and management.

What I dislike

It is a very busy so managing your time is essential when having to finish your work. It can be an hard adjustment for people who have not worked in this busy detailed oriented world. An error does not just effect you but will have an impact on other departments. This is not something I disapprove of with the company but anybody who wants to work at Memorial should be expected to be detailed oriented.

Suggestions for improvement

I think they have covered improvements. They are very proactive with monitoring and managing who has access to patient data. This is essential to protect patients and comply with federal and state guidelines. The culture is very inviting and management is very accessible.

Working at MSK is good for higher level employees but lower level people are not paid fairly at all.

What I like

People are generally kind and share a passion for helping others

What I dislike

Pay for low level employees is unacceptable for New York City. The org as a whole is very beaurocratic and slow moving.

Suggestions for improvement

Low level employees should be treated like adults rather than children who are not trusted (need to clock in/out).

EmployeeWorked in Research/development at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY at the time of review.

What I like

There are loads of great researchers and doctors here. So many helpful and relatable people that are easy to work with and collaborate with. Management is fine, process can take a long time and feel very impersonal.

What I dislike

It's a private hospital. But that's what it is so I can't complain I suppose.

Suggestions for improvement

More flexible working requirements. Especially remote work for people who do not need to be on site.

EmployeeWorked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, NY at the time of review.

What I like

Most people are kind, conscientious, and friendly individuals.

What I dislike

Low-level (including administrative and support staff) staff are paid poorly and treated poorly while physicians are treated like the only important people in the institution.

Suggestions for improvement

Hourly workers shouldn’t be treated like children needing to email when they arrive and when they leave.

Terrible Work-Life Balance

Former EmployeeWorked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, NY.

What I like

Growth

What I dislike

Not transparent. Lies to employees

Suggestions for improvement

Better work-life balance, more transparency.

Work-Life Balance

Terrible work-life balance. It’s all work, work, work. Once you feel you’ve reached your limits they give you more work and ask why you can’t handle it even when you’re already doing your job with a caseload for two.

Environmental Friendliness

Nice to your face, but you know there is a lot of talk

Teamwork

People are more out to get above each other. People are very nice to your face, but incredibly rude and not trustworthy. I’ve watched colleagues rat people out for things just to get ahead.

Support from management

Inconsistent and not trustworthy

Freedom to work independently

They hold your hand for months, and then constantly nit-pick every single little details. You’re every move is constantly being watched.

I’ve had a great experience working here. My manager can be overwhelming but communication is key and they’re receptive

What I like

The doctors I work for are very friendly, patient & understanding to any personal matters that may occur in my life

What I dislike

I only disapprove of specific individuals, not the company. Some managers/supervisors need extra sensitivity training

Suggestions for improvement

I would insist on annual sensitivity training for all staff and have an open door policy & firm penalties for HR complaints.
