Company Culture

I love my current job

Support from management

Management is caring and patient.

Teamwork

Everyone is positive and encouraging.

Freedom to work independently

Everyone is trained appropriately, and does a good job

Internal Communication

We are all very good with communicating

Gender Equality

Most of us are women.

Attitude towards older colleagues

We are patient with older employees and understand they have just as much to offer.

Career Development

I have only just begun my career in the hospital. There are many jobs and opportunities.

Overall compensation for your work

My workplace is very understanding.

Office / Work Environment

I feel comfortable and safe in my workplace.

Environmental Friendliness

We recycle cardboard, and coworkers will take bottles and cans to recycle on their personal time for the company.

Work-Life Balance

Our bosses are understanding and patient with our outside lives and when things come up.

Company Image

I love my employer! The job is an amazing opportunity to begin my career in healthcare.

Handicapped Accessibility

They are accessible to people in wheelchairs, with automatic doors, ramps, and elevators.

Workplace Safety

We have regular training.

Challenging Work

Healthcare is always a challenge

Inclusive / Diverse

We have a very diverse team.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I wish we could hire more part time employees that are not students. This would allow more flexibility when a full time employee needs a shift picked up.

What I like about the company

My workplace is full of happy smiling faces. Nurses, CNAs, and volunteers that care are always coming in and out of the building. They are positive and upbeat, and help you to enjoy the job even more. It is so rewarding to work in healthcare, and having a wonderful team makes it all the better.

What I dislike about the company

There are always places to improve with any company. We have had our struggles with getting good part time employees that are willing to pick up shifts. I can say that the main workers get stuck picking up hours quite often.

Company Culture

There are always very tight deadlines for projects/budget coming up. In addition to trying to close the month, resolve issues from prior employees that have left. There is little or no mentoring. When you do ask for help, there isn't time for you.

Support from management

I feel supported by my supervisor, however, management is frequently too busy to assist me. And when I've run into problems, I'm not comfortable asking upper management anymore. I'll receive no direction on an item, then be judged harshley regarding the task.

Teamwork

I do feel my co workers are encouraged to interact well.

Freedom to work independently

You're trusted to work independently, but not given any direction. So you get a task with little or no direction. Then if something that you're not aware of happens, you're made to feel an inch tall.

Internal Communication

If there are successes, they are brought up. Results can be hit & miss, there always seems to be something else that needs to be addressed first

Gender Equality

I feel ate treated fairly, however cannot speak for the opportunity aspect so I am rating a 3.

Attitude towards older colleagues

From what I have observed they are treated fairly, but cannot speak to opportunity

Career Development

There is training offered through PEX. However, professional development is non existent

Overall compensation for your work

Living in a small town, from my perspect I've my compensation is comparable

Office / Work Environment

Our office is in a basement, so natural light isn't plentiful. It has been a struggle to get stand up desks for our area, which is non revenue generating. However, numerous employees have requested them, feeling they would greatly help their comfort

Environmental Friendliness

We have a recycling bin for sensitive papers & a bin other

Work-Life Balance

You feel like you could work until forever. Yes, that is finance & accounting but it feels like Sr management doesn't understand that processes can't be improved without additional people.

Company Image

I'm confortable saying I work for Mercy but not terribly proud. I wouldn't recommend to a friend or family to work here. If there are clinics or hospitals nearby I would tell them to go elseware

Job Security

I do feel my position is stable. As Mercy is owned by Trinity, I don't feel my job is at risk.

Workplace Safety

We do have drills regularly

Challenging Work

There are plenty of problems to be fixed, alot due to turnover. Either something wasn't done correctly previously or there is no standard work or documentation

Inclusive / Diverse

I feel diverse ideas are supported

Suggestions for improvement

  • Stand up desks would be very helpful in our area.

What I like about the company

My supervisor has been very kind to me. There are good & smart people in our department. This position has taught me to be careful with my words in a professional environment.

What I dislike about the company

The opportunity for professional growth. There really isn't assistant for further education for anyone other than doctors. Yes, they have loans for nurses, but one hears of many programs/hospitals where nurses or other professionals are reimbursed for school loans.

Company Culture

Mercy’s culture is very positive and friendly. I’ve spent time in almost all hospital systems around the Akron/Canton area and they are by far the most welcoming.

Support from management

Management is top notch and so is the education department.

Teamwork

The team work and camaraderie is great.

Freedom to work independently

I’ve never felt like any of my bosses breathe down my neck. They trust our character and work ethic.

Internal Communication

Whether it is managers, charge nurses, or Human Resources I could always count on an answer in a timely manner.

Gender Equality

There are actually more women employed there than men.

Attitude towards older colleagues

They are very understanding and loyal to their employees of many years, and find new positions for older employees that may need a less physical or demanding position as they age.

Career Development

I already plan on continuing my career at Mercy Medical Center as my education continues.

Overall compensation for your work

I don’t make the most of other positions comparable in the area but it is still reasonable, fair and above minimum wage.

Office / Work Environment

As the hospital is old, sometimes it’s a little cold or a little hot (depending on the season) on some of the departments/floors.

Environmental Friendliness

Sharps, medical and infectious waste are all disposed of properly.

Work-Life Balance

Working as a “PRN” hospital employee means I am completely free to make my own schedule as long as I work a minimum of 3 shifts per month.

Company Image

I am proud to tell people about how much I enjoy my workplace and coworkers/managers.

Job Security

I’ve never felt like I would lose my position for reasons out of my control.

Handicapped Accessibility

Translators, wheelchairs, handy cap accessible tables and bathrooms are available.

Workplace Safety

Safety is of the upmost importance 100% of the time.

Challenging Work

The floors are always busy and there is always something to be done, but the days go fast and the team work makes it easier.

Inclusive / Diverse

Management is open to thoughts from the people working the floors and their input seems to be of value.

Suggestions for improvement

  • The charting system being updated from Meditech to something like Epic would be fantastic. It would stream line a lot of charting for the health professionals and decrease time spent at the computer and increased quality of care for the patients.

What I like about the company

The culture at Mercy is very positive and uplifting. My boss is one of the most personable and approachable people I’ve met, her office is always open no matter what I need. Even the front desk operator once said to me on my way out “thank you so much for your hard work! It does not go unnoticed or appreciated!” even though she didn’t know me, and it really stuck with me. Strangers in the elevators say “have a good day!” when they get to their floor. There are countless voltunteers too, many of them older adults and veterans. Pastoral services are always available and there are often service animals around for comfort. There is a “peaceful place” break room for employees that has massage chairs, yoga mats, dim lighting, couches, beach scenery and other relaxing things for use at any time. There is a subway within the building open 24/7, a cafeteria that makes hot food even for night shift, and a fitness center on site.

What I dislike about the company

The charting system, Meditech, is very outdated and not user friendly. A newer software would change everyone’s life for the better but we understand that’s a million dollar+ investment.
