Suggestions for improvement
- I feel the hiring process should be a more level playing field, more fair and more open. Adding to that the promotion process should be the same. It is very much a "who you know not what you know"" culture."
What I like about the company
I work as a paramedic so my job is often rewarding, often difficult, stressful and emotionally challenging. What I have found to be positive is that most of my coworkers are supportive, invested in the team effort of getting out job done and doing it well. Every experience where I can feel like I made someones day better is a reminder of how lucky I am to have this job.
What I dislike about the company
Nepotism is a big part of fire department culture in every department I have ever known. I think it hurts our effectiveness as a service as it severely limits or diversity of people and diversity of views and opinions.
