The company culture is discrimination, intimidation, and retaliation. However, privilege, politics and favoritism makes it a great place for some.
Support from management
If you're in the in crowd, the support is bountiful, if you are not, it's minimal if there at all.
It depends on the Team. If you're in the in crowd, I can give this 5 stars; I gave it one because only 10% of the staff is in the in crowd.
Freedom to work independently
Not happening unless you're in the in crowd -- and even they do as told.
It's horrible. The company boasts collaboration but makes all decisions behind closed doors and shoves them down to employees.
The company employees predominantly white individuals and people of color are usually in service positions (clerical support, building and food service, e.g.)
Attitude towards older colleagues
They push out the older colleagues to move in younger whites.
Career prospects for growth and development are unavailable to me.
Overall compensation for your work
As I stated, the pay is great! And about the only thing great about this company.
Office / Work Environment
It's pretty and comfortable, but technology is lacking..which is an embarrassment at a technical college.
There are containers throughout in the common areas. However, they're not provided company-wide (so it's not really encouraged). If a department purchases recycling containers, they're emptied by building service staff.
Some employees are stressed, overworked, and afraid to lose their jobs, while others sit around doing nothing all day.
I am not proud to work for this company as it has deservedly lost support in the community as is often referred to negatively in the public.
Serving the poor has its benefits.
Thousands of dollars was spent on renovating offices that do not have handicapped doors. When the VP of Student Services was notified the doors weren't handicapped accessible, he simply said they were and refused to change them. Doors have to be opened for customers in wheelchairs to enter these departments. There are doors on the company entrances and bathrooms.
The workplace safety rules are written down but poorly followed. In instances where employee safety was at risk, administration often failed to act timely.
I have been. Not anymore.
Inclusive / Diverse
This company has a culture of discrimination and privilege.
Suggestions for improvement
- Administration needs to be replaced. They perpetuate discrimination and unfairness and it is becoming more and more detrimental to the college.
What I like about the company
Why it's here --- to provide services to the most needy people in the community.
What I dislike about the company
The culture of discrimination, retaliation, and intimidation that exists.
