I like about the employer
The small, rural environment allows you to get to know people better and generally provides consistency in staffing. It also allows for more input in influencing changes, provided there is time away from routine activities.
I dislike about the employer
Management often doesn't understand daily workflow and how long it takes to complete tasks. Whether you get breaks or time to eat depends upon your job title and whether or not your supervisor is willing to cover your responsibilities. The same is true for work-life balance and whether you are able to leave on time or need to take work home. Pregnancy and child rearing are not appreciated or treated positively by some department managers. Some male managers are condescending, particularly towards women. In my department, women were less likely to be praised and more likely to be ignored if opinions differed from the managers' opinions.
