There are essentially no raises; when there is an increase, it is 1 or 2%, which is completely cancelled out when healthcare and pension contributions are increased the same amount at the same time, cancelling out any raise. No one is acknowledged for doing anything, nor is anyone shown any appreciation. The union is fraudulent, as the shop steward has been the same person for at least the last 16 years, and there is never the opportunity to appoint or vote for a new one. The shop steward works in collusion with administration -- regardless of appropriateness -- implementing exactly the type of policies that they are supposed to protect employees from via the union. The pay is atrocious, and now they hire people on a part-time basis so they don't even have to offer benefits.
Support from Management
Supervisors have ranged from those applying harassment, unprincipled practices, and mistreatment, to those who are incompetent, ill-suited for supervisory work, disorganized, and without reasonable communication skills. The library is badly managed and would go out of business in the private sector.
