Company Culture

I was THE ONLY female 2nd level supervisor in Financial Planning Dept. when I left in 1999

Support from management

Most of the time

Teamwork

didn't really have team projects

Freedom to work independently

Wroked independently and then micromanaged by Division Mgr

Internal Communication

Sometimes in meetings sometimes with notes left on desk

Gender Equality

HAHA. Only second level femal supervisor in my dept. Complaints because no women at Exec VP level so CEO made his secretary one.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I left at 40 vested and was promised my pension at 55 and 1 yr before I applied National Grid cut it by 60% so for a gigh management employee I now live 100% below the poverty level!

Career Development

I progressed so I amsure more opportunities now with all the mergers

Overall compensation for your work

It was. My pension is only $405/o. for someone who made over $72k plus bonus.

Office / Work Environment

Slightly above average

Environmental Friendliness

Probably now.

Work-Life Balance

fortnightly Fri meetings lasting to 1 1/2 + hrs. No OT since management

Company Image

I would have stayed except for the merge with Brooklyn Union Gas and me having to travel hours each way.

Job Security

It was

Handicapped Accessibility

Don't recall many but I am sure 20 years later up to code.

Workplace Safety

Safety was very good and had drills

Challenging Work

Tariff administration supervisor so worked on all tariff and rate changes dealing with the PSC

Inclusive / Diverse

Not really but promoted token few to look like it.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I haven't worked there in 20 years so I cannot contribute because I am sure things have changed.

What I like about the company

I went from union to second level supervisor in 4 yrs. Great health, dental and vision plans. I worked a 4 day work week. Had a good pension at 55 but National Grid cut it 60% without letting me know. Many facilities and locations to work. I unfortunately had to travel from Locust Valley to Brooklyn when restructuring began. I was well known in the NY Rate Group before I took a package at 40. They offered early retirement at 52 when I was 35 and then screwed me when I turned 55 to collect my Keyspan pension of $1050/mo and informed me that was now raised to 65 at National Grid. I was living in UT so not an option to go back to work. I am now 100% below the poverty level and have no health insurance.

What I dislike about the company

My pension cut 60% after I was grandfathered. National Grid changed it and I was not notified in UT even though my pension comes from Keyspan. Human Resources told me and another woman back in 1996 we had the strongest case of discrimination they had ever seen adn I regret not suing them on the spot.
