Company outlook

The Intelligence Community’s primary mission is to collect and convey the essential information that the president and members of the policymaking, law enforcement and military communities require to execute their appointed duties.

It used to be that conventional military threats were all the United States had to worry about. Today, we live in a much more complex world where security concerns are less straightforward and more global in nature.

NSA employs some of the most intelligent people in the intelligence business. We have to. We need brilliant people to gather and analyze foreign intelligence, protect our nation’s information systems, advance research, and solve a number of other challenges not found in the private sector.

We cultivate that brilliance by offering a collaborative and innovative work environment that values continual learning and development, so you may grow and excel both professionally and personally. Any time you want to change your work role and do something else in the agency, we encourage that, too, through cross-training and other professional development opportunities.

Company Culture

The people are nice, but the senior leadership has sacrificed the corporate values to politics.

Support from management

Generally, the higher up you go in management, the less connected they are with the workforce. Politics plays a great deal in promotion - not results.

Teamwork

People do tend to work together to achieve results.

Freedom to work independently

Civilians have a good deal of autonomy; the military personnel do not.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Take the entire Security Organization out in a field and.... well, I am not supposed to say mean things in these reviews so I will stop right there

What I like about the company

Most things. Managers have little power, so they try to persuade you rather than threaten you. The work is interesting, the pay is okay, the benefits are tremendous (pension and lots of vacation), and you CANNOT take your work home with you. Your coworkers can be a little geeky, but they are generally nice and are not trying to undercut you.
