Company culture

Intimidation and job fear is used to keep employees quiet and docile.

Support from Management

Plans are dictated with a blind emphasis on cost-cutting.

Teamwork

Depends on the group, but there is no management initiative or emphasis placed on the importance of teamwork.

Level of Autonomy

In most cases you have to work on your own due to unrealistic expectations and a shortage of qualified people.

Suggestions for improvement

  • On your next semi-annual layoff, consider getting rid of middle-managers, not the people who do the actual work. Customers don't buy powerpoint presentations, they buy products.

What I like about the company

Friendly culture, not cut-throat.

What I dislike about the company

Bloated middle-management acts like a high school clique. If you are in the clique you are promoted, and your opinion carries weight. Your actual skill and experience don't matter if you're in the clique. If you are not in the clique, you might as well not exist. Lots of gossiping by middle-management, they use derogatory names for workers not part of the clique.

Company culture

Culture was in decline when I left. More experienced people were leaving and less experienced people moving into leadership didn't grasp "empowerment". For example, the culture had a principal of letting the individual make decisions; the new leadership wanted to only let them make decisions once they had taught them to make the decision leadership thought was correct.

Support from Management

"Bring me a stone." Middle management is supposed to stay out of technical decisions, but only stays out up front, exercising a veto if the result isn't what they want. Very discouraging.
