Suggestions for improvement
- Increase staff to assist overburdened staff and decrease turnover and burn out. Involve employees in decisions on changes to improve work flow and acceptance of change.Put secretaries back on units to assist with call bells, screen excess calls sent to nurses and to combine calls and messages to doctors. This will decrease noise on the unit (alarm fatigue, pt complaints), prevent unnecessary interruptions and assist in prevention of medication errors.Schedule coverage for breaks to save staff time lost seeking their own coverage & ensure pt needs are met while nurses are on break. It will also prevent staff from playing catch-up when they return from break while allowing them to destress and think clearer on return to work on the unit.Support staff in providing high quality care by providing assistance and verbalizing support to decrease burnout. Design all clean utility rooms in facility to match as close as possible to facilitate stocking and decrease time lost searching for supplies. stock enough supplies and materials to provide appropriate care for patients. This will eliminate wasted supplies as staff may take too much trying to improvise for missing treatments. It will also save time. Ensure equipment are checked regularly and in working condition for staff use to decrease time lost labeling and calling for repairs when broken equipment is left on units for use.
What I like about the company
Healthcare employees are hard working and dedicated. Health benefits are exceptional. Pay is good. There are opportunities for advancement.
What I dislike about the company
Supplies are often limited and require lost time searching for to perform care. The company does not staff for acuity but by staff/ patient ratios. Employees are overworked and become burnt out and discouraged. Management focuses on finances and overworked staff are often told how they need to improve. Changes that affect staff performance come from management down and don’t include involving staff involved creating more work.
