BEST PLACE EVER

4.39

Company Culture

Innovative, supportive, and a great place to work.

Support from management

My experience with management was very good overall. The people I worked with were exceptionally smart, energetic, and personable. They were always willing to help and taught me a lot. I only encountered one really frustrating situation during the 8 years I was employed there. That person ended up getting terminated.

Teamwork

Again an area that was hit and miss when I started working there, but they did surveys, asked for employee feedback, and genuinely set out to improve things. Teamwork had become the norm by the time I left, which was a vast improvement over the silos that existed when I started.

Freedom to work independently

This was one of the best things about this company. You were surrounded by truly brilliant people, and most of them really cared about their work. They simply trusted you to do the same. It was refreshing and motivational.

Internal Communication

When I started, they were not always great with internal communication, but they requested feedback, clearly acted on it, and I had no complaints by the time I left.

Gender Equality

My only reason for a middling score here is due to the experiences of some of my colleagues. It did not impact me at the time, but several female managers in various areas did express concerns about a lack of support and growth opportunities for women to move into executive positions on the business side of things. Clinicians did not seem to encounter these issues.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older people with the company usually had a wealth of knowledge and experience and were respected accordingly.

Career Development

This was an area where I believe they could have done more and helped more. There was not a lot of growth or guidance toward any career paths. One had to be very persistent and go out on a limb to create opportunities. Many people come into the company with multiple advanced degrees, so this is somewhat understandable. The nature of the company kind of lends itself to assume that when you arrive to work for them, you are already in a career field and pretty self sufficient.

Work-Life Balance

Absolutely no complaints. Well managed. Reasonable. No one asked more of you than they were willing to put in themselves. They treated everyone like adults with lives and allowed a lot of autonomy and as much flexibility as possible.

Job Security

Well, unfortunately, my position was eliminated during a massive restructure, so obviously my answer is biased. It was a good company, and I suppose they had to adapt to market changes to stay viable, but it was disappointing to come in to work and find yourself and hundreds of colleagues out of a job. What really irritated me was that 2 other positions like mine were kept, and both people who were kept had lower performance reviews than mine for 2 years running. I was told performance had no bearing on the layoffs. It was all laid out with a legal team and HR to equally impact all sexes, ages, tenures, positions, and departments. On one hand, I suppose that makes it better, and on the other, why the heck was I giving my all if it never mattered in the end?

Suggestions for improvement

  • I suspect this may be in place now, but it would be nice to see a growth path for people who want to stay and develop a long term career with the company.

What I like about the company

This was absolutely the best company I ever experienced. The work saved lives, there were brilliant people at every turn, and innovation was not only welcomed but encouraged and rewarded. I never encountered that insecurity and fear that someone is trying to "take your job" or bypass you that you do in so many companies. They hired good people.

What I dislike about the company

The fact that they restructured and eliminated my position? Lol, honestly, that's all. I'd work for them again in a heartbeat.
