Attitude towards older colleagues
Yes. They have trouble filling maintenance positions which are filled by older left over employees.
Overall compensation for your work
Good pay. but, Unfair pay scale. Less experience employees are paid more or the same as career Electricians. This is mainly due to a sytem on who you know and who likes you. The system is set on work sheets that prove you can complete a particular task. Once you have someone signs off on the set tasks you are moved to the next pay scale.
This leads to disgruntled employees who may have 20+ years experience being paid as a 2 year unqualified individual who struggles using a meter to troubleshoot.
Office / Work Environment
Really no skill needed for any trade. The Electrician with experience are treated with less respect than those with none.
Swing shift...yikes...enjoy the pay and the premium pay. Your social and family life will be non existent. You are on a 12hour swing shift rotating weekly from days to nights.
Great job security. Plenty of Overtime.
A big deal here
On a new line. So on an Electrical maintenance stand point you are basically preforming Line resets an Lock Out Tag Out most of the time. If you are actually a qualified Electrician this becomes very tedious.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get to know your employees and their capabilities. Understand that a 2 year Technician shouldn't be paid the same as a 20 year Technician. This way people may actually stay at the Company
