Company summary

Changing the world of diabetes for 90 years

Behind the Novo Nordisk we know today lies an exciting story that goes back 90 years. It began with the two small Danish companies Nordisk Insulinlaboratorium and Novo Terapeutisk Laboratorium founded in 1923 and 1925, respectively. The two companies started the production of the revolutionary new drug insulin that had just been discovered by two Canadian scientists.

Novo Nordisk History

Building on the past - looking to the future

Since the earliest days, both Nordisk and Novo had focus on the development of products to benefit people with diabetes. Competing intensely with one another, the companies developed into two of the best in their field. When at last they decided to merge in 1989, they created Novo Nordisk. A company that has been expanding rapidly ever since with leading positions within diabetes care, rare bleeding disorders, growth hormone-related disorders and obesity.

Today the Novo Nordisk Way shows responsibility to patients, employees, communities and investors.

We will in the future continue to build on the legacy left by the founders of Novo Nordisk and do whatever it takes to change diabetes. Our history tells us it can be done.

Who we are

Products, services

We have five product areas:

  • Diabetes care
  • Haemophilia
  • Growth hormone therapy
  • Obesity
  • Hormone replacement therapy

At Novo Nordisk, we are driving change to defeat diabetes and other serious chronic conditions. Diabetes poses one of today’s biggest global health challenges. We work for a future where fewer people get diabetes, everyone with diabetes is diagnosed, and everyone who is diagnosed receives adequate treatment and can live a life with as few limitations as possible. Since the company was founded in Denmark more than 90 years ago, we have been changing diabetes. This heritage has given us experience and capabilities that also enable us to help people defeat other serious chronic conditions: haemophilia, growth disorders and obesity. Our ambition is to take the lead in each of these areas, driving change with an unfailing belief that it can be done.

Company outlook

Triple Bottom Line

The Triple Bottom Line (TBL) is Novo Nordisk’s way of doing business. We believe that a healthy economy, environment, and society are fundamental to long term business success. Therefore, we operate by taking social, financial, and environmental considerations into account when we make decisions. This ensures we manage our business sustainably and pursue solutions that are in the shared interests of the business and patients, and are in line with societal expectations.

To demonstrate our commitment to TBL, Novo Nordisk is one of only four companies in the world who have incorporated our philosophy into our company bylaws. As a result, the three pillars of TBL – Social Impact, Environmental Responsibility, and Financial Performance inform everything we do and guide every decision we make.

Our commitment to create value through innovation is our greatest contribution to society. Nearly a century of innovation and leadership has led to the development of a comprehensive portfolio of protein-based products and delivery systems for type 1 and type 2 diabetes care, as well as in other therapeutic areas where we can make a difference.

Application advice

Selection process

When it comes to hiring the people who will drive change at Novo Nordisk, we bring the same passion for unleashing potential that’s found at every level of our business, whether it’s for a position in our Home Office or for one of our many field based opportunities.

Our selection process is designed to ensure the right fit, aligning your skills with our business areas, and your goals with our long-term success. Your application receives individual attention from our professional staffing department, in close partnership with our Line of Business (LoB) hiring managers. After the relevant hiring managers review the applications they receive from Human Resources, you may be selected for an interview and contacted. Typically, a candidate will complete two to three interviews before gaining the opportunity to join the team.

Interview Process (Excluding Field Sales)

The selection process typically begins with a phone contact by a recruiter to discuss your background. If you qualify for an interview for a non-field related position at Novo Nordisk, your first round will typically take place on site or via a virtual interviewing process. This first round may entail meeting peers, supervisors, and Human Resource professionals.

You’ll have the opportunity to share your career history, future goals, and expectations in a structured way – and we’ll have the chance to learn much more about you and how your goals align with ours. The most qualified candidates for certain positions may be asked to take job related assessments, while technical and administrative applicants may be required to take skill based tests. You may also meet with a Hiring Manager at that time.

Should this result in a continuing interest, you can expect to be invited back for a second round of interviews to meet additional key stakeholders and continue the process of determining the best fit for the opportunity.

If you are selected to receive an offer from Novo Nordisk, the Staffing Department specialists will closely assist you throughout that process and your initial Onboarding.

Periodically throughout the growth of Novo Nordisk Inc., the company will add significant staff as a group to augment our existing employee complement. When appropriate, this hiring is done in a “blitz” format at a central venue on specific dates to which all final candidates are invited to meet management and interviewing teams in a “round robin” structured process. These events are held at attractive venues near major airports over a period of several days and result in filling the large number of opportunities quickly and efficiently.

Interview Process (Field Sales)

Sales opportunities at Novo Nordisk can be found far and wide. For these positions, if you are selected for consideration, you can expect the interview process to begin with a phone discussion with a Recruiter. You’ll review geographic coverage, career history, future goals, and expectations. If you qualify for a face-to-face meeting with a Hiring Manager, the first round will include questions on about six to eight of Novo Nordisk’s competencies and a five-minute sales demonstration that you prepare in advance.

You will meet the hiring manager in person, and additional interviews may be conducted through our “Green Job Interview” format (a virtual interview webcam). This allows us to reduce our carbon footprint and the amount of time required out of your schedule. If you progress to the second round, you’ll meet or speak to a Regional Business Director.
