Not What It Seems to Be

1.94

Support from management

We were taught to teach how to be a leader to the students. However, staff had more dictators than leaders.

Internal Communication

I was there for almost a year, and it was still unclear to me what needed to be done. One person would tell me to do one thing and another would tell me to do something completely different. Communication is key to everyday life. Without it, nothing will be successful.

Challenging Work

Despite the flaws, I loved what I did there. My students meant everything to me and I miss them dearly. Working with students from different nations, diversities, etc is very challenging, but one thing each of them wanted: respect. All they wanted was tough love: someone they can talk to when they need help or advice. They wanted someone that would be upfront with them about anything, but would also support them.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Be a family, not a prison. This is a place the students come, not only to better their education, but also to feel at home away from home. These young adults are just that, young adults. Even though some are more mature than others, we are there to give them guidance. We are there to get them ready for the real world, something that, obviously, they weren't getting at home. There were too many unnecessary rules, punishments, and scolding and not enough learning, support, and communication. If there was better structure in this corporation, this place would be an awesome experience. I wish all of you the best of luck.

What I like about the company

I loved my students! They put a smile on my face every single time I would step on dorm. They were the reason I would show up for as long as I did.

What I dislike about the company

There were too many dictators and not enough leaders. I was sometimes confused as to what needed to be done. I, also, wasn't fond of how the students were treated. Some forgot the reason for their positions. We need to be someone the students can confide in, that support them, but also gives them the tough love they need.
