Certain incentive compensation was promised and many reps actually had their hours and commission on sales decreased, upon new mid level management being implemented.
Overall compensation for your work
Benefits such as health insurance was partially paid for, but the amount of time and affort required by the sales reps were not compensated for their hard work. Thus, during my time with company there was a very high turnover rate.
This company has been in business for many years but from 2012-2015 the sales reps promoting the products were gossly underpaid and their efforts were not appreciated. The lack of positive reinforcement and compensation adjustments caused a lot of negative feedback among the sales reps employed.
Personally, I felt my job was stable, due to the amount of extra work I did for no additional compensation, but in these times no job is ever "stable" or "secure."
Very minimal training is provided and the wine sales part of this company was performed at big box warehouses. The "big box warehouses" always complied with OSHA standards.
Personally, I was extremely proud of my accomplishments and what I offered this company, but the efforts were never rewarded, nor do I feel ever truly appreciated.
Suggestions for improvement
- Pay reps a better rate of pay for the work performed and for those reps that excel, and perform additional duties, compensate financially, rather than decreasing a reps commission after they have already been hired to make a specific hourly rate, plus a specific commission.
What I like about the company
This sales/marketing job started out as a nice opportunity, being independently supported and marketed by an individual that was let go once his marketing and sales stretegies were implemented. I personally enjoyed interacting with customers and was one of the top sales reps with the company, state-wide. In season, prior to the commission percentage of compensation being reduced, a rep could make decent money.
What I dislike about the company
Too much micro managing, low compensation for work performed, and no positive "team environment."
