Your supervisor will commend you. However, the top administrators will taint the work climate. It is very difficult to work within their culture.
You can work as a team within your own dept. However, the administration will not support you. This makes it very difficult to accomplish success within your area.
Freedom to work independently
You do not have any say in which direction your dept. goes. The top administrators will not let you.
Although our department got many commendations from clients, when the top administrators of the campus were made aware, they never acknowledged them.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There is no appreciation for long-serving employees or employees who are seriously ill. On some occasions, they are simply fired.
You will have little opportunity to advance here. It is micro managed by the few highest administrators. Favoritism at the top is rampant. Another campus would be wiser choice.
Overall compensation for your work
The benefits are good. But consider the campus you apply for. Palo Alto should not be included here. Opt for a different campus.
Some are able to take vacation time any time. In my area, we were not allowed to take it anytime, and at times, not able to take it at all.
It was difficult to find any positive feedback at this campus. The complaint was the same. The top administrators were a serious problem.
Jobs are secure at most of the campuses, but not at this one. The administrators will not hesitate to fire if you don't go along. It is a challenging environment.
My department was well aware of holding to OSHA rules. However, the administrators were not trained in these areas and were constantly ill prepared when discussing them. They were always wrong and didn't seem to make an effort to learn the rules. It was unusual to recognize how badly trained they were in some of these areas. It was shocking.
Our department was proud of the work we managed to accomplish. However, it was extremely difficult to accomplish it with no support.
Inclusive / Diverse
The administrators at Palo Alto speak about diversity. However, we were not aware of it. That was never supported in our area.
Suggestions for improvement
- The top administrators would have to leave to have any improvements at this campus.
What I like about the company
I enjoyed my department and working with the staff within this area.
What I dislike about the company
It is severely micromanaged.
