I did notice a trend for receiving Kudos improving. Slowly.
Support from management
Employees were seldom consulted in events coming down the pike. Supervisors gathered together and met, hashed out the details and presented them to the workers. Slurp it up!
Really tough to help others when there was so much to get done on your own plate. Really hated going on vacation because the hellish mess you came back to ruined that great vacation.
Freedom to work independently
There are those who have time to goof off and at the same time there are others drowning in work. Felt really bad to drown.
Company feedback is provided monthly. The acronyms are hard to understand. Send a memo because there is too much work to get done to sit through a meeting hearing about KPI, GP etc. Every minute spent in a meeting means the desk is that much behind.
Those that have left the company and returned have generally received higher salaries than those who stayed and remained loyal.
Attitude towards older colleagues
It was difficult to be an older worker and not notice that many of the rank and file new hires were below the age of 30. Older workers in management and above seemed to be more immune from what appeared to be "ageism."
Only those who are 2-3 years out of college really get a chance to develop. The rest keep running on that hamster wheel.
Overall compensation for your work
Compensation is a little low. in 7 years we received raises twice. Exceptional employees have no incentive to be great other than their personal integrity.
Office / Work Environment
Employees are seated beside the toilet entrances. Have you tried to work with the sound of constant flushing in your ears not to mention nostrils?
These folks are enduring the growing pains of going paperless. It is catching on finally.
Work life & vacations can be a challenge. Seniority gets the prime vacation days. New employees get the leftover days nobody else wanted. Hard to feel that equality when getting the short shrift. Those without children are expected to relinquish times like Christmas Eve to those with kids. Everyone would like to spend quality time with family and friends.
Three layoffs in a year totaling at least 60 people.
Again, the rank and file are much like hamsters on a wheel. The piles of work grow and the little hamster people can barley keep up.
Inclusive / Diverse
In the last few years I noticed a shift to a more varied workforce.
