Are supervisors commending employees? No, i was told many times that i was replaceable. They want you to think they dont need you, you need them.
Support from management
Certain leaders in this plant were very biased and if you did not obey their every command and bow to their feet they would push you and push you until you break.
The employees teamwork is very good for most of the employees. There are a few rogue employees that like to stay by themselves but overall teamwork was very good.
Freedom to work independently
Workload is determined by your boss, he will continually give you task to do that he does not want to do. While you are doing his tasks he will reprimand you for lacking on your initial task while you are completely over loaded. Unless you are friends or family(which alot of people here are).
I had 1 'regular' meeting through-out the year, end-of-year review. Unless you were a sub-par employee then you were informed of that ALL the time. Certain leaders would also 'brag' to people about conversations had with co-workers.
I have never seen a woman work there and i doubt i ever will. The plant manager uses the womens bathroom as his personal bathroom.
Attitude towards older colleagues
New hires were usually in their 20's, but there were a lot of older workers there that were there for many years.
The position you are hired at is where you will be until someone higher than you leaves.
Overall compensation for your work
Salaries are good when you start, raises come every year, then they slow down tremendously. Or you are an employee who gets paid very little and it stays that way. Very good benefits and 401k. Salaries are paid every week. If your leaders do not like you on a personal level that will also affect your salary.
Office / Work Environment
In engineering we had an air conditioned office, with up-to-date computers. The noise was a little annoying due to the machines outside the office. Non-office employees didnt have it so nice. Extremely cold in the winter and ungodly hot in the summer. Due to the machines being used while running some areas of the plant are 30° hotter than the rest and during the summer over 115° isnt uncommon.
Climate protection to them is telling you to wear a coat when its freezing at your work station.
For me work-life was very good. I worked first shift mon-fri. Occasionally i would assist on other shifts if needed. Barely worked any weekends but if production was low we would work weekends. They do not care about your life when weekend work is needed. If you could not attend weekend work due to whatever reason they would dock you vacation time. But this happened maybe 3 times a year. Vacation needs to be handed in by a certain time early in the year, but once everything is scheduled you are semi flexible on rescheduling. Your daily work time was flexible, as in if you needed to leave a little early one day you could make up the time. This could only happen once in a while but make sure you make up the time the next day or prior. There is no such thing as a snow day. If you cannot make it into work due to weather you either take a vacation day or take a sick day and you lose the possibility of a monthly bonus. If you do show up for work and the roads start to get bad they will not let you leave early(without using vacation) to try and beat a storm.
Certain people talk very highly of the company, i dont feel this is completly true.
If you show up every day and do the minimal amount of work you will not get fired. This is also in my opinion a big issue with this company. People stay way longer than they should doing way less than they need too. During financial crisis they will lay people off.
There is a handicap ramp in the parking lot, but it leads you to steps. They dont have handicapped employees there and i doubt the ever will.
They train you enough for them to stop doing the job themselves. Im not up-to-date on OSHA standards but i doubt they are. They don't report accidents or near misses, minimal safety equipment is worn, and temperatures are extreme certain times of the year.
Meh, doing the same tasks every day. Occasionally having something new and exciting but not usually.
What I like about the company
The owner and very high ups are extremely friendly and helpful. The owner was definitely one of a kind.
What I dislike about the company
Lack of training. They do not want to pay for training on new software or hardware. Bosses are very biased towards employees. Certain employees they let get away with everything but others are reprimanded for anything.
