Job Insights

Marketing Mentor
Director of Talent Acquisition
Pre-Install Inspection Manager

Jessica Spencer, Marketing Mentor

What attracted you to this company?

I was attracted to the opportunities for development and stability, the culture of investing in people, and the chance to have a real impact on others and the planet.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

A typical day includes preparing for and running training camps for the team, creating a plan for motivating them, including setting goals, promos, figuring out the logistics of how and where we will market that day, reaching out to homeowners in the neighborhood to generate interest in a free estimate, scheduling appointments to give our Remodeling Consultants the best opportunity to help those homeowners, analyzing trends in performance for each team member to strategize a plan to help them develop and improve,  communicating and executing that plan, and above all ensuring that each team member is supported both in and outside of work.

What do you like best about your job?

I enjoy the opportunity to help homeowners and team members, and continue to learn from them.

What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?

The biggest challenges I face includes balancing the needs of the team while still maintaining my personal performance, and managing the time to devote to each. Earlier in my role as a marketer, the challenge was learning to deal with rejection.

Describe how your team works together.

The team works together to help each other whether it’s someone struggling with a particular skill in the job or a non-work issue. We share ideas, provide feedback for each other, support maintaining a positive attitude, and challenge each other to improve performance.

What makes the company a good fit for you?

The company is a great fit for me because it has created an atmosphere and culture of inclusion, is leading the way in changing the industry and business world for the better, and empowers and invests in its employees to help them reach their potential.

Do you have any tips for the interview process?

For the interview process, I would recommend asking yourself what is most important to your fulfillment and happiness, and then asking the interviewer questions to see how Power can help you achieve those goals. And then, truly listening and being open to receiving those answers.

Vince Devine, Director of Talent Acquisition

What attracted you to this company?

The opportunity to build a Talent Acquisition agency within the walls of Power.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

Vendor Management and Procurement
Evaluating metrics and KPI’s to measure performance and optimize workflow
Co-creating, implementing and evaluating talent acquisition strategies for the three verticals of Talent Acquisition
Overseeing the continual development of our proprietary HRIS from applicant acquisition to candidate on-boarding
Collaboration with C-levels, SVP's, VP’s, Directors and Department heads regarding hiring needs and acquisition strategy
Life-Coaching leaders and individuals toward professional and personal goal achievemen

What do you like best about your job?

I love the people. When you are tasked with a seemingly impossible objective, it can be grueling thinking about the journey you have to endure to achieve success. But when you look to your right and left, knowing that the people beside you are willing to push themselves beyond their limits for the improvement of the team, it inspires you in unimaginable ways. It’s not often you find the perfect utopia of loving what you do and loving the people you do it with. I’ve found that at Power.

What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?

Ensuring that our current best practices, strategies, and infrastructure are not just sufficient for the current state of affairs, but are developed to be viable solutions as we scale across the United States, and take on additional talent acquisition needs of the business.

Describe how your team works together.

The very infrastructure of my department is built around having a family-oriented atmosphere.  From day one, you are on a recruiting team led by a mentor so you don’t feel isolated when you first get here.  We encourage spending time with your team outside of work because I know those are the moments when you truly build bonds. When you foster that sort of culture, it makes having the difficult conversations easy because the person knows it’s coming from a place of support, encouragement, and love.

What makes the company a good fit for you?

Power is truly the definition of equal opportunity. It doesn’t matter what socio-economic class you come from, the degree you acquired or lack thereof; if you are honest, positive, gritty, take initiative, and will do the right thing when no one is looking, your exposure to new challenges and opportunities are endless.

Do you have any tips for the interview process?

Make sure you do research on a company before applying. Nothing feels worse than being incapable of colorfully conveying to a recruiter what interested you in applying to the company they represent.  Also, just be yourself.  Too often we find ourselves trying to rehearse the “interview me” facade. It’s important for an employer to be transparent with what they are looking for and for you to do the same.  By doing so, you’ll be able to truly assess if the position and company’s culture is a match with yours.

Heather Williams, Pre-Install Inspection Manager

What attracted you to this company?

The culture; the previous companies I worked for were so poor regarding leadership and culture that it was my number 1 priority. My friend worked at Power’s HQ during the same time, and said that it’s as great as it sounds; it has proven to be so!

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

As a Project Installation Inspection Manager, I am going to our new customer's homes and re-measuring the area of the home they’re remodeling. I am going over expectations for them and for Power. I order the material and put in the labor bill for when the crew goes out. I am scheduling the install date with the homeowners. Occasionally, I will help out on services or current projects if PM's need a hand.

What do you like best about your job?

Interfacing with homeowners and being all over the metro area. Not feeling like I'm doing the same job day in and day out.

What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?

When I mess up, it's a mess up. If a PII-M messes up, the crew potentially can't be paid, the install isn't done in a day for the homeowner, the Project Manager has to deal with the backlash, and we have to re-order products. It's tough when it happens, but that's why we learn from our mistakes and do the best we can to double check work and get it done in a timely manner.

Describe how your team works together.

Our group chat allows us to be in touch throughout the day if someone needs something or if we have questions on a job. Anyone is willing to help anyone, either by hopping on FaceTime, answering a text/call, or even coming back out to the job to confirm what we're looking at. The Regional Project Coordinators are quarterbacking the day and making sure everything is taken care of. And if anything happens and jobs need to be covered, there is no hesitation to help.

What makes the company a good fit for you?

The people are great, and even that doesn't do them justice. I also felt VERY supported as a woman and specifically, a pregnant woman, when I was in sales and on the operations side. I felt like expectations were clearly set for me and I knew what we're working towards as a team and what I'm working towards as an individual.

Do you have any tips for the interview process?

Be yourself - the hiring manager who's interviewing you will know if you'd be a fit or not based on who you are. Know that all the good, amazing things you see or hear about Power are true, it's not some facade to get you in the door. Ask questions and reach out to existing reps to get their opinion. I’ve had many women reach out to me over the years on LinkedIn to ask questions and I feel most people would be happy to help you navigate the interview process by giving you their honest feedback. Good luck and BIG congrats if you get the offer -- you will not regret it!

The Truth

3.22

Company Culture

Everyone drinks the cool aid the first 6months to a year then reality sets in.
Power works really hard at keeping employees in the power bubble. They want Your friends significant others to join. If they can make your life revolve around power they got you hook line and sinker.

Support from management

Once again an open door policy is preached but if you question the company mind set you’ll be ostracized.

Teamwork

Team work is driven by sales numbers.
You are paid 100% commissions only and bonus is structured so that only the elite can bonus. Leadership is structured so that you only get paid if your team produces elite sale numbers.

Internal Communication

Power preaches open door policy speak your mind environment but if you speak anything other then the power answer you will find an already very difficult job get even more difficult.

Gender Equality

The company pushes this to the fullest extent..... Its motivation is public and social expectance. Not very genuine if your encouraging your employees to spread on social media how inclusive of a company POWER is.

Attitude towards older colleagues

This is where it gets tricky Power wouldn’t want to publicly come across as a company that doesn’t support or hire older employees
But the truth is power wants Millennials preferably fresh out of college so they can get them hooked on the Relentless dedication to improvement mindset WORK YOURSELF TO THE BONE for the company Commission only pay. If your young and inexperienced you would buy into this cult mentality very easily.

Career Development

Plenty of training and you will get a fancy title senior sales rep = sale for more the a year FYI No pay raise ... Mentor = you are now responsible for 5 other employees sales out put and you are paid only if they achieve lofty sales goals. Not guaranteed paid commission only !

Overall compensation for your work

Sell or you don’t get paid !!!! You are required to earn the company 1.5 million annually or your not very good and you will find your job getting harder and harder until you are pushed out. Then they hire someone new to saddle up and dangle the carrot in front of.

Office / Work Environment

If your not grinding it out daily you must not care about the team or yourself or the company.

Environmental Friendliness

Everyone puts on the power show while inside the power walls if you look closer you can see how disingenuous most everyone really is. Friendliness is forced it becomes a compilation or requirement if you don’t smile, say hello or hold a door your not nice and not a power person.

Work-Life Balance

Power strongly encourages employees to make power their life. Daily events strongly urging you to bring your spouse and friends so that they can attempt to recruit them into the company. If you do not attend you are ostracized.

Company Image

They work hard at their public persona
They say what’s your public brand

Job Security

They hire and work people as hard as they can until they quit and then hire and train someone new monthly & quarterly. So much turn over that power begs employees to refer friends and family especially the newbies 6month to a year. Take a look at all the reviews on highering site alway employees 1 Year or less 4-5 star They encourage new employees to take job survey early because they are so bought in and blinded by all the monthly events and Mexico trip which isn’t free by the way!

Handicapped Accessibility

Again of course power supports handicapped persons. How many likes did that get.

Challenging Work

This is a one call close in residential home sales pitch that last 3hrs and your sale price range is $2500 up to and sometimes exceeding 100k. If the homeowner doesn’t agree the day your with them you don’t get paid no call backs no time to think it over YES on the spot or nothing. If you get a yes and they cancel you get nothing. If it’s not financially approved you get nothing !!!
No guaranteed pay !! This is a VERY stressful and extremely difficult job and the company doesn’t give a crap they just want you to go do it and be happy they pay you at all. You should be grateful for the opportunity is the Power mentality.

Inclusive / Diverse

The company pushes this to the fullest extent..... Its motivation is public and social expectance. Not very genuine if your encouraging your employees to spread on social media how inclusive of a company POWER is.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Cut back on the CULT structure Cut back on event spending and Start paying the employees who have proven they can consistently earn millions for the company a salary plus commission pay structure!!!!

What I like about the company

There are some really good genuine people that get hired at power I would like to see more of them stay!!!!

What I dislike about the company

They work people and push people to the point of wanting to give up. Then attempt to get them re bought in quarterly it’s not because they care for them it’s because they want them to keep working harder and harder and harde.

Company Culture

I hang out with my coworkers every weekend.. I don't have many friends who can say the same thing. It's natural to want to surround yourself with genuine people who make you better.

Support from management

Everyone wants to see you succeed. Support is always there.

Teamwork

Very collaborative. No job can be done without the team lifting you up along the way.

Freedom to work independently

They would not have hired me if they didn't trust me. Prove your skill, work hard, and it will pay off.

Environmental Friendliness

We need to get the whole building to recycle. Our team has a small bin that we personally take home to our recycling bins. We need to step up as a company and make this happen.

Work-Life Balance

Everyone is different. It can get really busy.. you have to make sure you are making time to relax and not stress.

What I like about the company

I like the freedom to explore different mediums throughout my work and help push our events and branding to a new level.

What I dislike about the company

My department has been growing and a lot is changing structurally. Building out better communications and structure will help especially with roles and bonuses.
