Support from management

Management says that they are there for you, but that's a lie. They look for excuses to use it against you. Injuries, problems at home, problems with customers, etc.

Teamwork

Despite management not really knowing how to run things, the teamwork with the worker bees is great. It makes up for management's incompetence.

Freedom to work independently

This is yes/no. You are expected to do your work without assistance, but management has no problem telling you what you are doing wrong.

Internal Communication

You never know what's going on from day to day & you get a completely different answer depending on who you ask.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I once heard about an incident where an older team member was told "Why don't you just retire already to make room for someone else?"

Career Development

The only way to get ahead in this company by "knowing somebody".

Overall compensation for your work

To be fair, the pay wasn't bad.

Office / Work Environment

They promote teamwork & caring for their employees, but not really. I've heard of people that were sick or injured & they were put in situations that aggravated their ailments (put in the smoking section when they had a cold for example)

This isn't relevant to the company.

IF you work in a casino, don't expect to have a life outside of work. That IS your life & you should have no reason to think otherwise.

  • They need new management that knows what they are doing that didn't get to their position by kissing butt or sleeping their way to the top. Start there.

What I like about the company

If it wasn't for my coworkers, working there would have been miserable.

What I dislike about the company

As I've mentioned before, they need new management. They play too many games & they throw their power around every chance that they get with their subordinates while acting like saints with their superiors.

  • I don’t like the fact that everyone who has the same position makes the same amount of money, the only raises are with a promotion.

What I like about the company

My GM and Co-manager are so supportive and always help in ensuring every team member is successful.

What I dislike about the company

I do feel like we should be eligible for a raise with an evaluation every so often, I don’t like the fact that every Singtel entry level manager makes the same amount because some put in so much more work than others.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Useful things like better tools for get cleaning or cooking jobs done. More communication between higher ups and lower level workers.

What I like about the company

I've gotten to know people I wouldn't have known otherwise, and it feels good recognizing them and them recognizing me.

What I dislike about the company

You could hire more people to make it easier for certain shifts, but higher better people.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Perhaps more enforcement? Maybe it's a little too lax. I'm not sure if Racetrac already offers this, but if not, perhaps a managerial training class? Not necessarily on the job responsibilities (like paperwork, etc.), but how to be an effective leader? Some of my managers are absolutely wonderful, but some I question if they honestly should have been put in a managerial position.

What I like about the company

There is a sense of community at work because you have your regulars that come in that always make your day. They laugh, cry and vent with you. It isn't as stressful as my previous job (shipping/receiving).

What I dislike about the company

It's not necessarily the fault of the company, but it seems like quite a bit of the people that are hired don't really have a sense of "this is a job, I have to do my best!" They like to move their mouths more than their bodies, which can be frustrating for some of us who take our jobs seriously. The workplace can be lax and fun, but at the end of the day there is still an hierarchy - you are the managers and still have to enforce the rules.

The company will say we treat employees like family; if you already know, most times family can be the worst part.

Managers and supervisors only care about the bottom line!!! You as a person/employee wont be.

most stores are in it for themselves. Teamwork doesn't exist

They hire for promotion externally when there are good employees that get looked over.

Managers get paid $1 more than a full time associate at $10.50hly

How they conduct the shift slots will not allow you to work on other endeavors. Meaning the start time of your shift will not allow one to carry a 2nd job. Managers get paid $1 more than a full time associate. One would say 'whats the point '

They were very accomodating to my health concerns and simply wanted me back to health so i could be back to myself & return to continue striving to reach my goals in the company i have for myself.

  • Increase staffing to allow for more flexibility in scheduling, and allow for time off to be taken when associates are ill

The pay structure could use some re-working. Shift managers are paid almost the same as full-time associates, yet have to handle a significant amount more responsibility

What I like about the company

Harrarhs is full of wonderful upbeat and positive people. The money is great and you will most likely be able to choose a schedule that works around your life. They are understanding and caring for all employees.

Company Culture

Inside a particular department, it is very good. Between departments, every department looks at each other as annoyances more than co-habitants. Instead of fixing their department, they spend time and attention pointing out what is wrong with others, in a vain effort to make their department look better.

Inside each department separately, it is good. Across the building, different departments are treated very poorly.

Only if you come up with the next big idea, which no one will give you credit for and you will not be remembered for having the thought.

Between departments, you can forget about proper communication. You can also forget about transferring customers to other departments to help.

No advancement of locals

Higher pay rates than jobs of same title at other places, but no real careers available to locals and no rewards for hard work.

Constant shifts on bad hours, bad sleep schedules, and no time for family.

Job Security

You are gone if they don't like you. 5 stars if you are in union department though because they will never get rid of you, regardless of how you do your job.

Workplace Safety

Some places are safe. State police are on property to handle "gaming floor" problems. If not in position on "gaming floor," you are not covered by state police. You have to wait for local authorities, and internal security sees your department as an unneeded nuisance to them.
