What I like

It was my first real job that has definitely help me develop my career and other opportunities that are out there for my line of work

What I dislike

Org restructure is a bit rough, pay isn’t industry standard for some roles, not good career path assistance or road map

Suggestions for improvement

Having to right people in leadership that understand the orgs they are running especially with support roles

Being innovative is not encouraged. Management expects employees to work twice as hard for a quarter of the pay.

What I like

The co-workers I had were some of the brightest, best people I've ever met. There are so many smart people with good ideas that work at Rackspace. There is also a slide on site.

What I dislike

Middle management is stagnant, and their managers don't hold them accountable for the shortcomings of their department and actively look the other way when concerns are brought to their attention. Upper managers should be tasked with auditing their midd

Suggestions for improvement

Be more innovative. The company claims to be a leader in the industry but is focused on reselling other company's products - the opposite of innovation. Be more competitive with employee's pay, you get out what you put in to your talent pool and emplo

Company Culture

Leadership was awful, and treated their employees pretty poorly

Company Image

I was embarrassed at the end of my career with the company to be associated with a group that treated its employees so poorly

Work-Life Balance

Some of the company departments encouraged healthy work-life balances, but many departments discouraged it despite the overarching 'stance' that the company was pro work-life balance

Career Development

In certain departments, yes, but not the department I worked for.

Handicapped Accessibility

Many handicap accessible amenities - ramps, elevators

Overall compensation for your work

My job title was paid $20k+ LESS than the market averages in my area

Inclusive / Diverse

Employees were expected to fall in line and follow the status quo instead of being innovative

Environmental Friendliness

Encouraged recycling and 'green' initiatives, such as not printing emails/presentations

Workplace Safety

Safety was never a concern

Teamwork

Backstabbing, unhealthy competition, and lack of communication was often encouraged to keep employees more focused on each other rather than the mistakes and shortcomings of leadership

Attitude towards older colleagues

Being in the technologu industry, older employees tended to not be as prevalent

Support from management

I was constantly undermined by my management and repeatedly set up for failure by my direct manager.

Office / Work Environment

Open workplace made it difficult to be as productive as having quiet spaces to get work done

Challenging Work

My role was primarily numbers analysis and data mining

Job Security

My position was created and terminated within 6 months

Internal Communication

C-levels were not transparent with the direction of the company

Gender Equality

Many upper leadership positions were held by women

Freedom to work independently

Leadership was very micro-managerial, to the point of treating employees like 'kindergarteners'

I work with some of the smartest people in tech at Rackspace with an excellent work life balance, and a fun culture.

What I like

Rackspace really does offer a fun work place. My coworkers are brilliant and make coming to work every day exciting.

What I dislike

Rackspace recently went private and is owned by a private equity firm, Apollo Global.

Suggestions for improvement

The company is currently undergoing changes in executive leadership and strategy under the influence of Apollo Global.

Pay is very arbitrary and varies widely across the same team regardless of similar qualifications and job performance.

What I like

I moved to this out of a completely different field and I have had the opportunity to enter the tech world and learn so much about it!

What I dislike

The pay disparity for women. It is made taboo to talk about pay but the only benefit to this is for the company. We should be allowed to discuss pay and have our pay be equal to our colleagues who have the same experience and are ding the exact same jobs.

Suggestions for improvement

I would make sure there was pay equality. The policies are fine, but I would definitely add in more corporate style events and pay attention to the "worker bees" even when the company isnt depending on them to donate so they can win corporate cup.

It is a great place to work in terms of company culture, and I enjoy the work I do.

What I like

The culture is great, and I enjoy working with my team.

What I dislike

The positions are over-represented in some departments, and underrepresented in other departments. I could easily get a higher title with more compensation at another company. In my particular team, we do not have the resources we need to develop our careers. I am not able to take on higher-level work, because there is no one to do the routine day-to-day tasks, which does not position me well for upward mobility.

Suggestions for improvement

There has been too much focus lately on The Plan, and employees are losing steam. Morale is low.

EmployeeWorked at Rackspace Hosting, Inc. in Windcrest, TX at the time of review.

What I like

While working at Rackspace every employee treated you like family and was more than happy to assist you with anything. The training was amazing and super fun but also prepared you to be on your own as well. Due to it being a nontraditional office job it makes you not hate sitting all day, not to mention they are the occasional nerf gun wars.

What I dislike

The promotion process needs work as you must take a written test which is complete differ t thank actually doing something with a customer

Suggestions for improvement

The only improvement I would make is the scheduling, have some part time workers so the full timers don’t always have to work weekend shifts. This would also make it easy to ask for pto

What I like

I've been given so many great opportunities because of my job including a generous discount on my car, on site cafeteria, amazing pay and a caring culture that gives me four weeks off a year plus as much overtime as I want.

What I dislike

I wish there were less crunch days. On some days we have projects that can last weeks at a time. Overtime becomes mandatory at that point.

Suggestions for improvement

Make overtime optional instead of mandatory.

EmployeeWorked at Rackspace Hosting, Inc. in San Antonio, TX at the time of review.

What I like

My teammates are excellent and we are able to work without to much input from the direct manager. We get quarterly team outings as well for our team.

What I dislike

Pay is below average for the role/location. Changes from upper management often don't make too much sense and often leads to more work for the front line workers.

Suggestions for improvement

Pay could be better. Changes could be reviewed by lower levels employees before pushing them down the pipe as they often are changed by upper management who have no experience doing the work we do.

EmployeeWorked at Rackspace Hosting, Inc. in San Antonio, TX at the time of review.

What I like

Teams and tight knit and cohesive and everyone seems to get along great. It’s a very relaxing work atmosphere

What I dislike

Leadership asks for opinions but doesn’t act on it. They make decisions without consulting those affected and without understanding the impact on everyone. People come here to get started but leave to grow more

Suggestions for improvement

More honest discourse with employees. A faster way to move through the company rather than a certain amount of time in the role. Improved technology to better support customers on the back end.
