Support from management
owner appears to care but is all about margins and paying only enough to keep you hungry
anybody that can do the job is treated equally and fair
Overall compensation for your work
salaries are paid on time, no benefits, the checks do not bounce, pay is as cheap as you will work for, when you start making money he changes his over complicated pay plans to effectively cut your pay
lots of overtime without proper compensation, will give time off when needed if requested in writing in advance , can adjust work hours a little ,lots of six day work weeks when busy
his image is the car will get fixed , on time , correctly , but not cheap, it will be expensive, but right.
this line of work excludes non able bodied people
as well as any other shop, more should be done though
Inclusive / Diverse
things are done the owners way with little room for different apporches
Suggestions for improvement
- be consistant and realistic with employees , push to new successes and then reward , treat employees like you would want to be treated , stick to pay plans that are easy to understand and allow for bonuses and encouragement, don't cut pay because someone is "making too much" realize this is a very high tech job that requires much training and experience to do well and be willing to pay for it, when people are rewarded they will be more productive. flat rate was developed to reward good work done in a timely manner, not to save money by overstaffing then paying minimal when slow, there is a better way....pay fair salaries and staff correctly, realize flat rate is no longer a good way to pay in this industry...how do you allow for knowledge and experience when you are paying for speed on simple tasks.
What I like about the company
able to access the owner, customers are generally friendly as well as employees, lunch shop meetings for airing out problems and atta boys, challenging work, paid yearly vacations
What I dislike about the company
owners complicated pay plans and micro managing , combined with sometimes unrealistic goals---when they are exceeded if a bonus is due he will find a way to turn it to his advantage and then adjust your pay plan so it does not happen again.
