RTTS is very big on having a holiday party every December. The party is in NYC and is not during work hours. However, the party is not really scheduled with the employees in mind and if scheduled midweek, the employees in attendance are expected to be back at work the following morning where ever their current assignment might be. The party has mandatory attendance even though employees are told it is optional.
Support from management
The heads of the company seem to work on what they want. They focus on the company's bottom line and how they can increase profits so they have larger salaries for themselves often at the expense of the lower level employees. Generally the lower your rank, the less they care and the more they blame you for anything that is negative about the engagement, even if the customer is setting unrealistic goals that the sales people never bothered to confirm.
There isn't teamwork. There are managers that get bonuses based on how much work people assigned to their "team" did so they are very result oriented and not very people oriented.
Freedom to work independently
Employees can set up their own work area but the work load is not balanced. The load will either threaten to crush you or you will be sitting around all day with almost nothing to do. Work is assigned with only a small amount of concern about whether the assigned employee knows the technology they are being assigned to support. If they do not know, they need to learn very quickly and be adept at fooling customers into thinking that the employee, who is just learning the technology, is in fact an expert in the technology and has many years/hours of experience.
The employees are definitely told when clients have something negative to say about them, even if the comment is because the client misunderstood what is and is not possible with technology and is complaining that when they asked the employee to do something that cannot be done the employee explained in detail the reason it could not be done.
There were very few women that worked in the company. Most were in positions like the HR representative or the Marketing person with perhaps one or two as technicians.
Attitude towards older colleagues
All new hires with very, very few exceptions are fresh from college. Employees that have been employed for a long time are present however they are not appreciated anymore than newer employees.
The company has set criteria for promotion and advancement but don't seem to follow it. Further training is only supported if the training would result in the company being able to say they have someone with a certain certification or a set of knowledge. It did not mean that person would be given the opportunity to use that knowledge.
Overall compensation for your work
Wages and salaries seem to match work roles. There are benefits and the pay is on time.
Office / Work Environment
The computers are up tot he tasks asked of them. The space given to employees can be tight at times but is sufficient.
The company seems to be aware of environmental and social matter and they are taken into consideration.
There is not much balance. Vacation days can be taken at anytime as long as they are approved in advance before work is scheduled for you. Working hours are normal. Families are taken into consideration as long as their needs are structured around the employee's work.
Employees don't seem to talk about the company very much.
No one has a stable job except possibly the heads of the company. Pretty much anyone can be eliminated and the company seems like it is very dependent on how the company is doing recently. If the last few months have been only marginally profitable but the months before that were very profitable then the newer employees at least are in danger of losing their jobs and everyone is in danger of having a pay cut.
There aren't any employees with disabilities.
The working conditions are safe as far as I could tell. There wasn't very much in terms of training to ensure an accident free workplace since the worst thing that might happen is someone spills coffee or tries to carry too much.
Feelings of accomplishment were not very forthcoming for me and I wasn't very proud of my work. This was due to anytime something was finished, the next task was right there needing to be completed. I also didn't feel very proud because I never had time to do my best work. The pressure to get work finished quickly made the choice between making something that worked now versus something was would be more robust.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diverse opinions and ideas are not really supported. Most of the time they want you to do things the standard way so it is easier to troubleshoot if anything goes wrong or breaks.
