Support from management
Some of the road bosses were AMAZING!! I feel they were not appreciated the way they appreciated the drivers they supported.
Definitely a "give and take"... As a taxi driver, accomadating the needs of the employees in dispatch is the best way you can expect to make you money.
Freedom to work independently
No autonomy I was ever aware of as a driver... I just can't delete the "one" star from showing up.
Most drivers will say working there is all about "playing the game". If dispatch doesn't like you, if you don't do them enough favors, you don't get much work.
You must have self discipline to make money there. You have to be willing to put in many hours a day but unless of you are irresponsible when it comes to driving or being a sensible person, you could do this job forever.
Depended on the day, how many street calls I got along with how many calls I got from dispatch. For example, hearing a driver got ten dispatched calls in one night when I got zero left me angry and feeling frustrated.
Suggestions for improvement
- 1.) Regulating dispatched calls so they are fairly distributed amongst ALL DRIVERS!! 2.) An incentive plan for the drivers that go above and beyond. 3.) Many restaurants make tipping mandatory now... Being a taxi driver, you must pay for your own gas and can sit for hours with the car running A/C (in the summer wasting more gas). Since recently adding the immediate $3.00 charge when turning in the meter, why not make a mandatory 10% tip?? The drivers are the ones doing the work, they need extra also. Add that into the 3%, or take it from that charge.
What I like about the company
1.) Flexibility of being able to create my own schedule.
2.) Not having a "boss" I reported to. I understand I had many rules and regulations that had to be followed. However, I was the boss of my car.
What I dislike about the company
1.) Lack of communication from dispatch to the drivers.
2.) Favoritism from dispatch to other drivers due to their personal matters outside of work.
3.) The high cost to lease the taxi
4.) Not ONE incentive offered to the hard working employees.
