The company is run as a dictatorship. Many senior executives cannot make a decision within their area of business without checking with the CFO.
Support from management
My immediate supervisor always gave support it was from the next level up where it was lacking. People who do not understand technology making decisions without consulting others.
There is more backstabbing and finger pointing than you can ever imagine. No one is held accountable for their actions or lack of action.
Freedom to work independently
The worker bees are not given any opportunity to express opinions or make suggestions for improvement considering they are working the procedures.
The communication is limited. Many departments are dependent on others however the lack of communication and/or willingness to share information puts a strain on the other departments involved.
It appears that "minorities" are a fair chance for advancement.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The median age of the company is approximately 55.
Training is available as long as it has been budgeted otherwise it is a battle to get approval. They do have education reimbursement available. Many positions offer on-line education.
Overall compensation for your work
There is and has been a 3% cap on all increases for years. Unfortunately the cap is per person not department which would allow members of a department who show outstanding or above average work an opportunity to receive more than 3% while others in the same department may receive 1%.
Benefits are decent, you do pay a portion of medical, dental and vision. Married with children pay through the nose! Vacation time is typical 2 weeks per year. Overtime is offered.
Office / Work Environment
The working environment is decent. Typical open floor cubical set up but be prepared for a lot of chatter.
Do whatever it takes to get the job done. Very wasteful and unwilling to incorporate technology in the workflow process.
I've never had any trouble with time off. Depending on your level, they are not demanding of your time.
It appears only the executives speak highly of the company all others have very few compliments.
There is always a risk.
All options are available for staff that may need accessibility assistance however, there are no employees that have those needs.
The company does comply with all regulations. They conduct the annual earthquake awareness practice run and frequent drills for evacuation.
When major tasks are completed, no acknowledgement is give what so ever.
Inclusive / Diverse
Many decisions are made in silos without discussing options with others.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get a board of directors who will challenge the company not kowtow to the President.
Hold people accountable for the work/lack of work they do.
Supervisors and up would be surprised if they were reviewed by their employees and peers, maybe that needs to be implemented.
Hire people who have some technology experience and can use MS Office let along a computer.
What I like about the company
Location is good for freeway access. Salary was decent for the work done.
