Suggestions for improvement

  • Ask for feedback from employees and actually listen. Training needs to be improved...not only to include Probation Officers. Career Advancement and competative salaries....not only to include Probation Officers. The morale would improve if the work schedules were more flexable and the tenture of current employees were valued.....not only to include Probation Officers.

What I like about the company

I appreciate that my job is stable. I have never had to be concerned that I would be laid off, fired without notice or the company going out of business.

  • I enjoy the company I work for but would like more flexible hours. The schedule is not bad though.

What I like about the company

Morale is big with the Probation Department. Effort is made to celebrate birthdays, get involved in the community, and to take care of ones health and wellness. Although people have separate caseloads and workloads, employees seem to be big on team work.

What I dislike about the company

I would like better raises and the ability to work more flexible hours.

Suggestions for improvement

  • The department used to experience traditional ebbs and flows of growth as employees were hired and others retired. Approximately 6 years ago changes in the law caused earth-shattering changes that necessitated unprecedented growth resulting in a tremendous amount of hiring and fast-tracking of promotions. This led to a dilution of experience resulting in substantial failures related to the training and mentoring of new staff and promoted staff. In turn, the lack of experience caused systemic problems that were exacerbated by the implementation of numerous new programs and requirements. The department has learned from some of its failures and implemented ongoing and follow-up training to ensure programs and requirements are being correctly run. Additional training at the unit level and individual mentoring will lead to better practices and continued implementation of programs.

What I like about the company

Colleagues are very willing to assist one another with training, mentoring, assisting with issues, and completing tasks. There is a tremendous amount of interchange of ideas in an effort to provide the best service with the least amount of effort and trouble.
