Support from management
Support varies per Field Supervisor, most are pretty accessible and helpful.
Every week there is a team conference call. Most Supervisors encourage FI's to glean from one another. Most FI's are usually willing to help each other.
Freedom to work independently
I worked alone.
Questions and concerns are generally addressed quickly by management.
There was a good gender mix in my training classes.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The average age of most Field Interviewers is 30+.
Overall compensation for your work
RTI pays its Field Interviewers better than many other research companies.
Office / Work Environment
Field Interviewers work remotely, you control your work environment.
A minimum of 20-25 hours per week is expected, but you set your own schedule on the whole.
RTI International has a good reputation.
There are longitudinal studies that are ongoing for decades. Other studies have set parameters. As long as you perform well enough, you will always have a job.
Working nights and weekends in various regions has its challenges. This is a niche job. People skills are very important. Moral depends largely on the Field Supervisors. Some FS's are micromanagers and others are too hands off. Most are just fine.

My studies were staffed with a diverse body of Field Interviewers.
Suggestions for improvement
- Do not force Field Interviewers to return to homes where the Respondents have been hostile in their refusal to participate in a study. Be more understanding of safety issues in unsavory regions.
What I like about the company
I like the pay. I like the variety of studies. I like working with people from every walk of life.
What I dislike about the company
I dislike working with Field Supervisors who are micromanagers. It can be tough to conduct studies in inclement weather.
