Company culture is towing the company line and reciting it to as many customers as possible.
Support from management
I was given modest tools to succeed in a pressure sales environment. Quotas were to be met for Sam Ash credit applications, which I did not agree with. Keeping notes on leads and customer information and making calls to those people was part of the program, even though most of my customers didn't like it much.
I got help from some associates, but from most it was a very cut-throat attitude and approach. Several times fellow salesmen would try to get cut in for half the commission, and thought nothing of stealing customers I was working with.
Nothing really good or bad to report here.
As long as your sales numbers were good, you were treated pretty well.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I did get some respect from some of the younger guys.
Overall compensation for your work
Bad benefits and a thinly veiled strait commission job.
Office / Work Environment
The AC and heat always worked, but I was never very comfortable.
Not real good. Most of the people who work for Sam Ash ark gigging musicians, but Sam Ash is bad about giving these people time to gig. They always wanted me to work Friday and Saturday nights until at least 9.
Image is important to Sam Ash, and they liked me to dress the part and have a look.
I could always talk to my bosses, but couldn't count on any follow through.
For me the challenge was staying up on the latest developments in guitars, which I was only nominally interested in. I'm kind of an old school player.

Suggestions for improvement
- Management has to have a very positive attitude. Without that it's a very stressful situation.
What I like about the company
I liked being surrounded with cool gear and people all day.
What I dislike about the company
I think that any Sam Ash store is as good as it's General Manager and Sales Manager. A person who is aggressive with sales will do better. I worked for some good people and some not-so-good people, and I was not a very aggressive salesman, but I brought some other things to the table which were unique to my situation.
