Fear rules at Sammy's.
Support from management
Though there was efficient support from management during rush hours, anything requiring managerial support was seldom handled in a professional, timely, or courteous way.
There was much cooperation between staff members.
Small notes on the cork board during rush hours do not an announcement make.
Management did not take enough care in selecting a store manager who had a long concerning history of harassment. Complaints were filed from within our company, but were hardly handled competently.
Attitude towards older colleagues
This is not very applicable in the service industry, as the overwhelming majority of people applying are young.
This was highly lacking at Sammy's.
Overall compensation for your work
Sammy's has been sued for not paying wages accurately.
This was a large opportunity for improvement for upper management.
Almost everyone hated working for Sammy Ladeki.
No one felt their job was very safe. Several men were let go because the manager admittedly wanted more girls in the job to harass.
This is not applicable.
This was due more to my personal approach to the customer rather than a culture of pride.
Inclusive / Diverse
There was not much diversity there, though I don't feel that this was the company's fault but was more a byproduct of the demographic of the location.
Suggestions for improvement
- Lead with respect and not fear.
What I like about the company
The company's image is actually quite decent despite its internal issues.
What I dislike about the company
There's a strong culture of fear from the top to the bottom.
