Suggestions for improvement

  • Because it is a union staffed non profit government agency there are individuals who make it a practice to perform as little of their designated job description duties as possible and still keep their jobs with no disciplinary action being taken by their managers and supervisors. If strong action were taken to correct the workplace practices of these sandbaggers it would increase the morale and productivity amongst those who perform their designated duties and improve the overall workplace environment.

What I like about the company

I have worked here for 21 years and have no desire to be any place else. Our goal is to see every student in San Diego prepared for higher learning and equipped to enter the global market place. We partner with stakeholders and other valued partners within school districts and other agencies to resource our clients, educators, and students to meet educational standards with technology and optimal programs that benefit schools and augment existing systems of learning. We handle earning dispersal, teaching credentials, migrant education, juvenile court custody schools, special education, outdoor education, and the hope infant program, mentoring and conflict resolution programs that serve schools and communities throughout San Diego County. We service districts and schools with building and planning oversight to locate the best qualified bidders for approved projects.

What I dislike about the company

We do not have professional security personnel at any of our facilities. As a result the burden of overwatch for safety and security falls upon our maintenance and custodial staff which is a disadvantage when unwanted and unwelcome individuals trespass upon the grounds. Due to the urban location and prevalent theft and violent crime in the area, the presence of trained security would provide a much more safe and secure workplace.

Suggestions for improvement

  • One improvement I would make is to provide a program and incentive for cross training individuals for other jobs and duties so that growth transfers would occur within the organization instead of hiring people from outside as positions are vacated and become available.

What I like about the company

I’ve worked here for more than 20 years and it feels more like a family to me than a work place. As I have experienced shattering personal circumstances in life, I have always found a supportive and caring community here. Because we care so much for each other, the culture of care and service naturally spills over upon our clients who are the students, teachers and support staff who make education their mission in our county, in our state, and in our country.

What I dislike about the company

I honestly do not disapprove of any part of our organization. Each division, each department, each office, and each employee serves a valid and essential role in providing services to our clients and staff.
If there were one thing I would criticize, it would be that there are a few individuals who choose not to perform the work they have been assigned and their behavior is tolerated and their workload is absorbed by others instead of disciplining them to become more productive team members or terminating their employment and hiring others who are willing to do the work.

Support from management

After working in Risk Management, I had no support in any of the departments I worked in from the so called "Secretaries", who were by direct supervisors.

Internal Communication

Not enough training. My manager lied and had me demoted.

Office / Work Environment

Not good after leaving Risk Management.

Environmental Friendliness

Not good after leaving Risk Management.

Job Security

I was the last hired at the time and one of the first to go.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Do not let Secretaries be supervisors and listen to your employees.

What I like about the company

Most of the people and their purpose.

What I dislike about the company

The politics and secretaries being supervisors and not having a voice!
