Company Culture

Good. No complaint or concerns.

Support from management

Management support has been good. I have no complaints.

Teamwork

We work as a team at store 103.

Freedom to work independently

No complaint or problems noted.

Internal Communication

No complaints.

Gender Equality

No complaint or concerns.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I am a retiree. SAS staff including regional manager etc. at store 103 have all been welcoming and willing to make sure my learning needs were met. I have been here one year.

Career Development

I am retired and have enjoyed working as sales representative. I have not considered promotion at this time.

Overall compensation for your work

Starting salaries should be $10/h to meet rising cost of living.

Office / Work Environment

Store 103 is a caring place to work.

Environmental Friendliness

SAS has a friendly work environment.

Work-Life Balance

It has worked well for me. I try to be flexible in my schedule. Store managers have always been flexible as well.

Company Image

Customers all speak highly of SAS and its product.

Job Security

I am satisfied that SAS will be around for a long time to come.

Handicapped Accessibility

Handicap accessibility from vehicle to door is too far...

Workplace Safety

There is not an alarm system or panic button available for staff. Most of staff is female. Many have related to incidences in which a male was lingering outside of building as they were leaving or stories have been told about occurrences in which troubling situations have happened within store. Safety measures need to be upgraded as the store remains open late after many surrounding business have closed for the day. Should a staff member yell for help there is no one available..

Challenging Work

I work hard to meet the needs of the customer. Customer service can build or destroy companies. SAS is rocking in regard to its effort to promote positive customer service experiences.

Inclusive / Diverse

Currently 103 is a diverse group. We work well together.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Panic button or an alarm systems in all stores is greatly needed. Mens shoe boxes need to be wider. Several times men have complained that the shoes they are trying on seem to be leaning downward. That is because shoes are too massive for the boxes in which they are being placed.

What I like about the company

I enjoy working with people. Friendliness of our customers and their response to a staff that is positive and interested in their wellbeing makes a big difference in the overall experience for everyone involved.

What I dislike about the company

Lack of safety mechanism being in place to protect staff and customer.

Company Culture

SAS has an excellent product but as an associate I can not fully accommodate the needs of all the guests.

Support from management

Store manager support excellent, some times support at the corporate level is not so much.

Teamwork

Our team fully communicates expectations and needs, we work very well as a team.

Freedom to work independently

Store manager open to new ideas as long as they are within the corporate guidelines.

Internal Communication

Too much of communication is done verbally and not in a written form.

Gender Equality

I am a female and treated no differently than a male employee.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Since I am an older employee, the work environment is appreciative of my experience that I have gained with age.

Career Development

There is no career development. I have had many years experience as an independent shoe retailer and now as an employee. The company does not fully use my experience,

Overall compensation for your work

The pay is commensurate with the city but I couldn't afford to purchase our shoes if I didn't have other income.

Office / Work Environment

There are some things that could be changed to improve productivity. A cart on wheels at counter height to use to check and repaper boxes, also a rolling stool to do inventory.

Environmental Friendliness

The employees are very friendly, sometimes the guests are not.

Work-Life Balance

The nature of having a small team requires that we cover for our team mate when they are off and causes use to work more hours.

Company Image

I am confused about the company image. We are suppose to be a high end retail, but then we are required to do grass roots marketing. The Omni system is not working as presented to us. We place an Omni order after checking to see if the shoe is available, but then the shoe is not shipped in a timely manner. The customer then holds us responsible while we have no control over the shipment of the item.

Job Security

I have no doubt that as long as I want a job here I will be here.

Handicapped Accessibility

Except for our front and back doors, we are totally handicap accessible.

Workplace Safety

Too many electrical cords because of lack of electrical outlet, also we have to climb a latter to wash windows.

Challenging Work

The work is not challenging, sometimes guests and corporate are challenging.

Inclusive / Diverse

Everyone is welcome

Suggestions for improvement

  • SAS has gone to expense of having shoes approved by Medicare as diabetic approved but has provided us no means to dispense diabetic shoes for Medicare.

What I like about the company

The best thing about the company is the quality of their product.

What I dislike about the company

Having been an accountant and doing audits, the quarterly shoe count is cumbersome. The company should hire an independent auditing firm to write the guidelines for the quarterly count(audit).

Company Culture

The culture at SAS is very relaxed but with a strong, professional backbone. This allows for employees to feel less stressed and much more comfortable without sacrificing work productivity.

Support from management

Management is very friendly and always willing to help. They make it clear what needs to be done and will always assist you in finishing the job. However, management usually never gets to hear from the average employee and sometimes fail to understand the dynamic of certain store(some stores are much different than others and require different conditions in order to optimize sales).

Teamwork

The manager to part/fulltime employee relationship is very friendly but still professional. Everyone does have their own selling statistics but it is never used to evaluate job successfulness. We do occasionally have competitions between employees to see who can sell the most of a certain item, but this is always in good fun and there are never consequences, only rewards for doing good.

Freedom to work independently

SAS puts a great amount of trust into it's employees, however it is still a retail store and thus the ability to work independently is hindered. This is not a problem, however because the team-oriented environment creates a place where you never have to worry about meeting deadlines or failing to perform in a certain area.

Internal Communication

By keeping a close connection with all levels of management. SAS creates an environment where someone would never be afraid of contacting higher levels of management.

Gender Equality

Some of SAS's top executives are women(as well as the CEO) and the company makes it very clear that gender has NO role in any company positions. Gender isn't even something that should be a concern at SAS.

Attitude towards older colleagues

SAS has great respect for older workers, and age has never been a concern for hiring someone. On top of this, the company also does not discriminate against younger workers and will always give anyone, regardless of age, an opportunity to work for this great company.

Career Development

As with all retail, it would take a long time to develop any sort of career at SAS. The company is always happy to consider promotions and further opportunities however.

Overall compensation for your work

As a basic retail employee, the company offers great promotions and bonuses. We get a bonus twice a year during the winter/summer and even special events for birthdays. The only complaint with this is the pay is fairly low for a retail job but the relaxed and friendly environment easily makes up for this.

Office / Work Environment

SAS offers great freedom when it comes to the work environment, allowing the employees to setup the break room however they like while also giving AC controls to the employees of each individual store. This allows for the employees to setup their work environment to be however they please.

Environmental Friendliness

SAS recycles all unused bags and boxes. On top of this all SAS bags are made up of recycled paper.

Work-Life Balance

At my particular store, there is almost always too-few employees. We are not severely understaffed, however there are times where it is difficult to get certain days off as a part time employee. Note: This is only at my store and most stores have an acceptable amount of employees.

Company Image

Being a family-owned business, SAS creates a lot of pride within its workers. Everyday I feel noticed and take a bit of ownership within the company. Sometimes, it can be a little difficult to get your voice heard but they will never ignore what you have to say, even if you're only a part time retail employee.

Job Security

SAS offers incredible job security and benefits.

Handicapped Accessibility

SAS has full handicap accessibility within its stores and treats disabled individuals with respect, just as they'd treat anyone else.

Workplace Safety

Being a shoe store, there isn't much danger to working at SAS. However, where there is danger SAS makes sure to properly train all employees(for example, on how to properly operate a ladder) to make sure that they will never be put in a dangerous situation.

Challenging Work

The work at SAS is fairly simple as it is a shoe store, however, there is challenge in actually making a sale sometimes. As we do track certain sales, it can feel really good when completing a challenging sale, and you'll never really have to worry about punishment for not making a sale.

Inclusive / Diverse

SAS creates an environment where anyone can work free of harassment. A great HR team always makes sure that your voice is heard and any/all complaints are not just ignored as they are in some other companies.

Suggestions for improvement

  • SAS has an incredible environment, however there is always room for improvement. By offering a more competitive pay, the company would have no problem keeping employees and acquiring new ones.

What I like about the company

I love the overall environment of SAS. The friendly, caring workplace allows for me to never feel like my voice isn't heard, and the bonuses the company offer show that my work is never unaccounted for.

What I dislike about the company

The pay is on the lower end of the "competitive" scale and they never really offer raises.
