The new company has not resolved what their business model will be. It seems to change with the wind. Poor leadership has Save-A-Lot losing business to the competition and consequently has closed over 100 stores in the past six months.
They are in a death spiral which is sad to watch. To compound their problems, they have separated most of their talented employees from the company and hired a new inexperienced group.
Support from management
The independent retailers have been asking for a little support from management. They are not getting anything but lip service.
Teamwork is not a part of their culture. You do want I tell you to do is the culture.
Freedom to work independently
You are given your marching orders to complete tasks. There is no independent culture.
The communication with the new group is poor. Late deliveries which lead to out of stock conditions in their stores is one example. The stores do not know when their deliveries will arrive so consequently they can’t schedule labor appropriately.
They treat them poorly.
Attitude towards older colleagues
They have terminated almost every associate over 60 years of age.
Overall compensation for your work
The separation between the old associates and the hiring of the new ones was a “Hire” for less attitude.
Office / Work Environment
High pressure along with a seven day work week is the culture.
No environmental program is in place. They place little importance on this.
Working late nights seven days a week is expected.
The industry is just waiting for them to implode of be sold again.
People are still being terminated on a weekly basis. When management decided that a program is not working, it is then blamed on the staff and not a poorly designed system. Senior management takes no responsibility for ill conceived processes.
They do the basics and nothing more.
Nothing but your basic safety plans are in place.
With no model as a reference point, what are employees being asked to challenge.
Inclusive / Diverse
They have a large diversity group here. Unfortunately they do not practice what they preach.

- A new culture needs to happen soon if this is to be salvaged.
What I like about the company
The discounted food business helps many shoppers save money on groceries buy putting stores in areas that may not have any supermarkets.
What I dislike about the company
Their treatment of their employees is awful. They also treat their licensed owners poorly.
