Company Culture

This is a difficult question to answer with foreman 1 if u begin to prove you can kinda work on your own he lets you. Foreman 2 disappears sometimes and leaves his responsibilities on the people under him Sometimes I capitalized because this is not all of the time but enough of the time. It's a job based primarily on the weather. Foreman 1 will tell u if ur doing things right or your doing great but also tells you the negative side also. Foreman 2 says nothing or negative things

Support from management

With one of the foreman it can be a great work environment. He is knowledgeable and fair to all. The other Foreman not so much so foreman 2 has fairly bad work ethic. Can be biased against ppl if he does not agree with their home lifestyle, and was promoted out of necessity therefore he sets a low pay scale for other employees. I'm not saying he is dumb or does not have the skills to excel but he does seem to have the drive too. He can also be a "because I said so" type of foreman which personally is a big negative for me

Teamwork

I give this rating because teamwork is a necessity in this field of work. Materials are long and heavy but as in any place it could always be better since everyone has bad days

Freedom to work independently

This depends on what crew you are on but I don't really have a negative thing to point out neither are real bad but one crews foreman is a little more fair than other but both fair at an acceptable level I think

Internal Communication

Communication is absolutely horrible at this company. I could go on for about an hr on how bad it can be. Here is an 1 example out of many. I was once told on Friday that I had to leave on that Sunday to go to Wyoming oh did I mention this was on Father's Day weekend. I have to cancel my plans with my dad.

Gender Equality

This company doesn't have any women in the field I think in the office it is diverse

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older people as long as they can keep their production up are treated equally to everyone else who's production is up

Career Development

They do seem to prefer to promote from within but it is an extremely extremely small ladder so I really wouldn't say that there is a lot of room for advancement

Overall compensation for your work

They offer 401k which is great but the real reason it gets a 1 star is because by law they have to offer health insurance and they do but it is so expensive that only the upper office people can afford it. The only person that is in the field that can afford the company offered insurance is foreman 1. Company offered insurance was somewhere between $460.00 and $480.00 a month for just myself. This is more than I bring home after taxes in one week

Office / Work Environment

I give this a 3 not for a negative reason each roof is different and the company has no control over that. Tools are provided by the company and if something is needed it is purchased

Environmental Friendliness

Again no real negatives but also no positives either

Work-Life Balance

Again a very difficult question to answer. Basically this is a job for a single person. Your situations at home are not taken into consideration and work hours can change from job to job. Basically be prepared to work any shift on a job to job basis

Company Image

I do not believe there are very many employees in the field that are very happy with their employment situation. In the office may be completely different

Job Security

The job is secure as long as u are able to survive a lot of lost work due to bad weather

Handicapped Accessibility

This job most likely can not be safely preformed by someone disabled but there is no company policy against the disabled

Workplace Safety

They do provide all of the safety equipment some are a little old but still safe to use in my opinion foreman 1 is bigger on safe work than foreman 2 who will sometimes ask u to preform something that is questionable he will not ask you to do something he is not willing to do himself and if u feel uncomfortable doing something because u don't feel it's safe he does not hold it against you

Challenging Work

It can be challenging but once you have done it. As long as u have a decent skill set it's not bad but there is often new challenges you have to work around so it can be a good challenge or it could suck.

Inclusive / Diverse

I'm confused with this question and do think it applies to my company

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better pay, better communication, are the biggest complaints. This company in my opinion is surving (not monetarily. The company makes great motet and pays the employees poorly) because everyone that got the job got it through someone so no one wants to throw anyone under the bus. Myself included.

What I like about the company

I really enjoy the type of work

What I dislike about the company

extremely low pay for the hazardous work you are asked to perform. It seems like the company would prefer to have a crew that is more like 3 laborers and 1 competent person in prefer to pay people around $12.50 an hr (I make a little more and have tradeschool and prior construction experience I make $16.50. They take advantage of people's situations for example I don't have a license and I am here because they pick me up for work BUT I am constantly explaining how to do various aspects of the job plus a better work ethic than my foreman who I know is paid $4.00 more an hr. But remember depending on what crew you are on your experience can be completely different. The pay does not change but overall work environment does. If they paid well I might have a completely differently view on some aspects of working here but I am currently looking for new employment
