No trust, morals are very low. Supervisors take pride in tearing down, seldome building up workers
Support from management
Extremely poor management of staff and attorneys. Under staffed. Set unrealistic goals. Literally a sweatshop. Morales are very low
No one really works together. No time whatsoever to barely use bathroom facilities let alone socialize and get input from one another
Freedom to work independently
Little communication. Just laydown unrealistic rules and deadlines. Totally understaffed
Management, lawyers and then staff is obviously at the bottom and not treated with enough respect as a piece of furniture. Opinions are irrelevant and never asked
Attitude towards older colleagues
Workers use one another to try to keep their head above water and disregard what it may or may not do to each other
No room for development or excel
Overall compensation for your work
It is like pulling teeth to get a annual raise of 10 cents per hour. Benefits in today's marketplace in a firm this size are just ok, nothing great.
Office / Work Environment
Ventilation in poor. Mold has even been reported. Despite numerous employees requests for improved condition, nothing has been accomplished.
They pretend they follow adversity but ignore things right under their noses
Usually the same individuals get the same vacation/holidays year after year. Little consideration is given for employees' familities with young children or sick family members. You are expected to keep unrealistic deadlines but never work overtime.
I recall most staff members being very unhappy with the way the company is run and how the staff is treated. I have also heard several attorneys being extremely unhappy as well.
One never knows from day to day if they will have a job tomorrow or not. There are a few "mentors" that really don't know what they are doing and are able to push their busy work on people under them and no matter what are somehow protected, even though they are not that good at their job. They should be tested to see if their talents even match the people they oversee.
I undestand that there is mold present in the ceiling. Several workers have complained but nothing is ever done. Tests were made but nothing revealed. Staff members are expected to use file drawers which are only accessible using a unsteady step stool, then climb down with heavy files.
Very much resembles a sweat shop not a professional environment. No time to proof read your work or even understand what it is about. No pride can be taken with work products that you fear may be wrong because there is no time to double check it.
Inclusive / Diverse
Opinions of workers are totally disregarded
Suggestions for improvement
- Hire more staff. Many people are extremely concerned about the work products going out the door which is a reflection of the attorneys and the firm as a whole. There is not a lot of smiling and talking or any positive reinforcement of one another. When new attorneys are staff are hired into the firm, no one takes them around and introduces them to even their own secretary.
- Because there is so much pressure on the attorneys I have seen numerous ones be verbally abusive to their secretaries. Also there is little time for the attorneys to even check their own work so court documents and correspondence may go out the door incorrectly.
What I dislike about the company
They are totally under staffed and give unrealistic workloads to be accomplished in unrealistic time frames. Little time for lunch or even washroom breaks. I witnessed people fudging on their time sheets and signing out for lunch, while actually working through their lunches just to get their job completed, thus not being paid for their work. Difficult to even get out of your chair to stretch and/or walk around causing problems with back, legs and vision. No camaraderie exists. Little respect or kindness is given on a daily basis. Many of the attorneys are miserable and thus do not have good demeanors. If you try to communicate problems with HR you are given a black mark.
