Support from management
Although my supervisor was a highly trained and knowledgeable professional, he had been promoted beyond his level of competence and was not an effective manager. I rarely received any helpful feedback or support.
While lip service was paid to teamwork, in actuality there was little true collaboration happening.
Freedom to work independently
Lack of clarity and organization in the workload distribution; expectations unclear.
This was one of the biggest problems in the workplace. "Annual" performance reviews happened about every 3-4 years.
This was provided for faculty but not staff.
I have heard good and bad. There is differential treatment.
Apparently it was not.
I often felt as if no one cared whether I did my work or not. Doing my best work drew scathing criticism.
Inclusive / Diverse
In a word: NO.
Suggestions for improvement
- Provide regular performance evaluations and feedback to employees without making it a punitive process.
What I like about the company
Some of my colleagues/co-workers were great and appreciated my efforts.
What I dislike about the company
I didn't receive adequate support from higher-ups to do my work properly. I believe there is discrimination against non-Hispanic personnel.
