I worked at multiple stores over 11 years from 2004-2014. So the company culture changed quite a bit over that time.
Support from management
No support from management. I only got support from a few managers and that was very rare and far between.
Our teamwork wasn't bad with certain departments within each store. Working in the deli/bakery produce and meat the teamwork was great. Out front and other areas there was a lack of teamwork.
Freedom to work independently
ha!!! I wish this was possible.. You couldn't even sneeze without having someone yelling at you over it at times. Other times you were getting yelled at for not doing someone else's work.
This changed from management of one store to another. At one store our communication throughout the store and the overall structure and movement during a busy period was great. If we had bad management well then it wasn't.
Attitude towards older colleagues
This company ignored the fact I was in college and scheduled me during finals so there is no career developmental or encouragement for the employees.
Overall compensation for your work
Office / Work Environment
Bad work environment. Faulty equipment that tried to kill me as well as managers who blamed me for that equipment falling to pieces.
There was no balance especially when you tried to fit life into the situation. I can't remember how many events I missed because I had to work.
No job security. I have been injured at this job multiple times and in one case permanently with no compensation.
Not at this job.
Inclusive / Diverse
There is no diversity, and to be in fact there were at times racist opinions thrown by individuals.
Suggestions for improvement
- Treat the employees like human beings, have actual benefits for them such as insurance that's really insurance that pays for when they have surgery or go to the ER. Replace the equipment and actually listen when an employee says something is wrong with it. Put in a system for when employees want to go to school no mater what program it is they enroll in whether its online or local college. Most of all actually screen your management before hiring them this may include a psychology programs since they seem to be a bit insane from my experience.
What I like about the company
Nothing really not in the end.
What I dislike about the company
A lot.. too much to say. In the end I have a what is basically a permanently damaged foot since it curves all the way inwards because of walking on their floors and twisting my ankles on their wet/oily floors.
