Suggestions for improvement
- Replace the current owner with a person who is sensitive to both patient's and employees needs. The office manager should have been replaced long ago! I was there for nearly 7 years and for the last 2 years or so I became increasingly stressed and extremely unhappy but because I was an "older employee" I was treated with less and less respect. I was also aware of how difficult it was to find a job in a dreadful economy(2013) and that is one of the reasons I did not want to quit. And, by the way, though I was 60 yrs. of age at the time I was let go, everyone said I looked and acted like I was 45! The other great thing was, no sooner had I left this job I found out they were going to fight my unemployment benefits. I went to the meeting and advocated for myself and won my benefits, after all. Then we lost an elderly relative and wound up inheriting a LARGE sum of money so now I am volunteering at hospitals and helping the ill and needy in my community--so all is well that ends well!!!
What I like about the company
It was close to my residence and when I first started working there the office manager seemed friendly and helpful. Also, I enjoyed seeing patients improve their mobility. They started in a wheelchair and eventually were walking, assisted only by a cane or quad cane. We had enough employees to handle the workload when I first came on staff.
What I dislike about the company
We lost 2 very helpful, qualified employees towards the time when I left my job and they were not replaced--we were expected to shoulder the entire workload with basically 3 employees. I was P/T and I was expected to complete as much work as the F/T employees. We were also
told that we had to learn and use the formulas for determining a patient's
degree of disability which I felt was beyond the scope of my expertise--I was a front desk administrative employee and I felt strongly that the therapists should handle anything related to determining degree of disability of each problematic body part. We were swamped with numerous other duties and did not have the time to calculate things
that the therapists really should have been handling themselves. The office manager had become irritable and very difficult to be around and
embarrassed me in front of the patients, at times. She showed obvious
favoritism toward certain employees and the boss should have called her
on this but he made it clear that he could not have cared less about how the employees were treated. He expected employees to come to work when we had gotten 8 inches of snow on top of ice--again, no concern for
our safety at all!!! He had a 4-wheel drive vehicle but most of the employees did not. In addition, he would express annoyance when many
patients cancelled their appts. due to the inclement weather. Clearly, he was NOT concerned for their well-being either!
