You sort of have to drink the Kool Aid to really like it there. If you can do that, you'll probably enjoy your time.
Support from management
My manager tried but never really understood me. Way too by-the-numbers for my taste, but someone else may have connected with them fine.
My team was totally like high school. The "cool kids" were in charge and set the tone for everyone else. Again, if you were like them, you'd do well and have a good time.
Senior executive described the *wrong job* to me during my interview. (He described the position of another staff member within the same work team.) I was being considered by two companies at the time of his meeting with me and that meeting was a major decider for me. I regret it.
Seemed fairly balanced.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There were a few older employees but most of them were senior executives. Some younger employees acted confused or threatened when an experienced worker did something differently than they did. Much of the office politics were decided during the socializing the younger crowd did. If you wanted to go home after work, you lost out on crucial, behind-the-scenes decisions.
My boss got really defensive when I told them I wanted to work for another division. Instead of helping me into a position that was a better fit, they insisted I do better on the team I was on. Didn't show one bit of understanding that it's OK to do better in one area than another.
Overall compensation for your work
Some members of my team complained; I thought it was about right.
Office / Work Environment
Awful, noisy open-plan workstations.
Boring. But again, it was definitely not a fit for me. Maybe others think it's great.
Inclusive / Diverse
Very white company. The only hijab I every saw was worn by the cleaning lady. No persons of color in leadership roles that I saw.
Suggestions for improvement
- The company is super-proud of it's tendency to completely shift directions and go with brand new ideas with almost no notice. In some ways, that's great. But if a bunch of people's jobs are based on certain ideas and then those ideas get kicked to the curb without warning, you're really messing with people's careers and job satisfaction. SPS doesn't seem to get that. They are a growing company but still acting like a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants start-up.
What I dislike about the company
Really can't say because it wasn't a fit for me. The things I hated other people love. What I disliked might not be realistic to change.
