Company Culture

very fear-based, insecure and process (not accomplishment) based

Support from management

shockingly political and backstabbing

Teamwork

LOTS of improper appropriation of others' work and accomplishments, LOTS of unmerited self-aggrandizement

Internal Communication

indirect, misleading, deceitful, gossipy, degrading, minimizing of others and lots of self-aggrandizement

Gender Equality

Quite archaic

Attitude towards older colleagues

A lot of tenured senior citizens

Career Development

non-existent

Overall compensation for your work

ridiculously low, especially for Silicon Valley which why they can never attract the best and brightest

Office / Work Environment

beautiful campus with lots of awful offices

Environmental Friendliness

students are quite socially aware, staff and faculty are in the stone-age

Work-Life Balance

Tenured and senior faculty pulling a high salary while absent as others do the work they take credit for.

Company Image

Everyone complains but pretends - a situation that will catch up to itself sooner or later....

Job Security

HR is horrific here - if HR wants to do something they do not have to follow the rules - beware, beware, beware

Challenging Work

This is NOT a place you go to accomplish anything - there is a lot of talk and very little doing

Inclusive / Diverse

much trepidation about anything and everything 'not stanford' and 'not they way they do things'

Suggestions for improvement

  • Revamp HR, commit to values and a mission statement and live by it. Require honesty and eliminate destructive manipulations. Requires a total cultural revamp and that starts with the people -

What I like about the company

Public programs at Stanford, interesting guest lecturers, students

What I dislike about the company

Very antiquated, smug, discourteous, pretentious culture populated with unmerited egos who behave in a clown-like, childish manner (they will literally refer to themselves as 'rock stars' - which is at least amusing). HR department that should completely rebuilt from the ground up, known to have the worst HR department anywhere.

What I like about the company

Not much

What I dislike about the company

Was very hostile place to work. Other workers were very mean spirited and rude. No value for teamwork or helping to train new hires. It was "dog eat dog" working environment and not a fair place to work.
