Support from management
They are not prepared to assist because of lack of sales training.
Freedom to work independently
Everything is micro managed. Do not expect to process a sale without it being reviewed. This does not prevent errors, and sales consultants are held accountable for everything.
Even sale events are not communicated. Expect to hear about promotions from customers.
This is a dead end for sales professionals. Operations mentality is more welcome.
Overall compensation for your work
Sales is paid at 5%, design and clearance center employees at 7%. This creates great friction and needless competition.
Office / Work Environment
Equipment is antiquated, and little space is set aside for sales force.
This company does not even recycle large amounts of cardboard generatedd at the stores.
Per the company president, sales consultants work 7 hours per day average. Expect to work more than 200 hours per month. It is encouraged in order to generate sales.
Company image is better than deserved, largely due to attractive buildings
Relax, if you can survive on the minimum, they will keep you forever.
Most buildings are ADA deigned, but it is miserable for the disabled to try to get through the overcrowded showrooms.
MSDS sheets never displayed, exits blocked by furniture, stairwells ussed for storage. It would be a nightmare in the event of fire.
Inclusive / Diverse
Sales hiring is very diverse. With one notable exception, do not expect to see people of color in management or corporate office positions.
Suggestions for improvement
- Take a hard look at retailers who are succeeding. Have and independent company survey sales people to learn why 1) many of the best do not stay, 2) local industry professionals avoid the company. Always, always conduct exit interviews.
What I like about the company
Offers direct deposit, always pays on time.
What I dislike about the company
The culture is stagnant. It is very difficult to make sales, and more difficult to resolve issues that are the result of merchandise. Scheduling is arbitrary, some people unable to secure a regular schedule. Many "mandatory" days in addition to expected holidays. Managers very protective of their time, but indifferent to employees. Basically and abusive culture.
