This is an active duty military assignment... Its not like Average Joe off the street can just walk in and go to work.
That being said, my review is based on when I was stationed onboard, so it may or may not be accurate now.
- The chain of command was terrible. They did tend to play "favorites", whether they knew it or not. I saw many people who didn't deserve to get awards and/or special training get those, and a lot of deserving folks got the shaft.
-Very low morale, even for a military unit. If you have a family and get sent here, forget about spending time with them... Save yourself the pain, and just get a divorce. Give up all hope, ye that enter here....
-Long work hours (especially if you work in reactor dept.)... Seemed like we were always underway, except when we went in the yards for a year, then it felt like we were always at work... Maybe that's because I personally was actually spending less than 5 hours at home each day. Forget about trying to get an off day... You could leave if you had a medical appointment, but you'd better be back afterward even if that meant coming back after working hours, and getting a week's worth of vacation time was next to unheard of.
Suggestions for improvement
- Take better care of the crew!!!!!
