The corporate culture is good. It does vary considerably store by store. The Appleton store has a very different culture.
Support from management
Management in the Appleton store is very biased. They will assist top writers at all costs while average associates are ignored. New associates are left to fend for themselves. Ethics are not taken into consideration by most of the management staff when dealing with conflicts between associates.
Teamwork in the Appleton store is discouraged. Winner take all is encouraged.
Freedom to work independently
Teamwork is discouraged among the sales staff - so independent work is a must.
Most of the sales staff is female. Most of the management is female as well. The only place females aren't hired for is warehouse.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Most of the sales staff is over the age of 40.
There is no career development. There is no training program. There is very little upwards mobility.
Office / Work Environment
AC system runs cold in the winter and hot and stuffy during the summer.
For a commission sales based company Steinhafels does a good job.
Some of the furniture groups are too tight for anyone who needs mobility assistance.
Inclusive / Diverse
The store is good at hiring token minorities. But some members of management have been quick to discard minority applications.
Suggestions for improvement
- New management - otherwise the company is pretty good.
What I like about the company
For commissioned sales - it's pretty easy work for a decent paycheck.
What I dislike about the company
The Appleton store is set up to be cutthroat with no ethics. Management believes that this produces the best sales.
