Steward puts its money in the wrong places!!!

If you say anything in the least bit negative, you are a problem employee, even if you have a solution or the feedback is constructive. They ask for feedback, but all they want to hear are positive comments.

  • Needs every department adequately staffed, needs all equipment fixed, needs all areas stocked. Cutting costs has been done in all of the wrong places!

What I like about the company

I love the people I work with- have been there over 11 urs. This company has run the hospital into the ground.

What I dislike about the company

All of it, I think they should take care of their employees & patients instead of only caring about money!

They invest in the wrong place! Staffing is a skeleton crew in every Dept every day. It negatively impacts employees & patient care.

Company Culture

I work with great people, but my work arrangement with that team is why I give it three stars. I'm very isolated from my teammates and in fact we're all pretty spread out in the region. Not much occasion for get-togethers.

Support from management

most of the time yes. my first manager, after he left the company, said I should start thinking about leaving too. That was less than three months into my tenure with Steward.

Teamwork

I don't know what it means to encourage honest, direct interactions. Maybe we do? There are regular opportunities to bring concerns to light on conference calls and such.

Freedom to work independently

I'd say about half my work is done independently with no problems.

Internal Communication

I seem to miss more than a couple company memos for some reason.

No doubt there's something fishy going on within the company that I don't notice, but at the same time there are many women in highly technical or high-level management roles

I don't think there's anyone under 45 in the senior offices

I am easily 5 or 6 grand below the median depending on who conducts the measurements

sometimes takes a while to get the hardware needed, but other than that you get everything you need.

i guess? i've never thought of Steward as being super environmentally aware.

Work-Life Balance

I work in the greater Boston area. This idea of work-life balance could be achieved, I think, if there were no commuting to and from the office (i work remotely twice a week)

Company Image

It's not necessarily the company- it's me. I know i'm not working where I want to work, doing what I want to do, and therefore I don't shout it from the mountains that I work for Steward. It's too "office."

Challenging Work

I knew virtually nothing about what I do today, so that made it challenging to start, and there are always new challenges to tackle especially now that more integration is going on across the country.

Seems diversity is valued, but again can't speak for the whole company on this topic.

Suggestions for improvement

  • reinstate local holidays for paid time off, as in, marathon monday (Patriot's Day) off, even though HQ is in Texas now and not MA. Give employees an education stipend up front, maybe like $500 to take some quick online classes throughout the year, and another $200 for education completely outside the scope of your job function, to give employees something else to think about and flex different parts of their brains and maybe discover new interests that keeps them engaged.

What I like about the company

getting opportunities to have my work presented in professional journals and conferences, even if it's a senior level guy doing the talking, it's nice to know I'm useful in such a large organization.

What I dislike about the company

I don't have anything specific. I'll say the company as a whole could be a little less uptight.

The staff is great, however the company has made cuts everywhere and it is affecting morale and ultimately patient care

Lots of staff have left to other hospitals for better pay, I think thru need to do market increase

I have never seen a single recycle can anywhere in this entire hospital, disgusting.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Updated paint, artwork on walls, remove photos of directors. Appears old and outdated. Add a recycling program. Add fitness memberships or discounts to fitness centers. Remove dead landscape and plant new. Wash windows more often. Get operators that know what they are doing. It's the contact point of the entire facility and they are CLUELESS

What I like about the company

The people are wonderful, kind and caring but they are burned out due to short staffing. Last year were didn't get our full 401k match. We only got 1.5% instead of 3% which is way below market average.

What I dislike about the company

Low 401k match program, lack of communication from administration, it would be nice to have more transparency overall, need for market in all departments

  • I would improve the policy for hostile work environment and expedite the process for removing the issue.

What I like about the company

The people I work with are amazing. My direct manager for my office is amazing aswell. Great location to commute

What I dislike about the company

H.R. is so hard to get any help from. Any corporate Communication is very limited. They do not match the 401K program. The premiums for healthcare is very high.

Company Culture

The team itself is fine but we're so geographically isolated and rarely see each other so it feels lonely sometimes. I also work more with other departments than I do my own.

A bit. I don't know what management could do to be better, maybe be a little more aware of the well-being of not oft seen analysts.

Eh...thoughts can be shared but so much is governed by the top execs out of Dallas, or by state and federal guidelines.

Freedom to work independently

I've worked independently for the last two and a half years since our main office was disaggregated and dolled out among the greater Boston towns.

Internal Communication

Some things get lost in translation, like how certain holidays were eliminated, and the who thing where my prior supervisor vanished with no warning one morning, and that afternoon my new manager showed up and i looked like a deer in the f*#king headlights when he introduced himself.

Gender Equality

Healthy mix of genders at all levels of the organization. My coworkers are predominantly women.

Older employees stick around from what I have observed.

Career Development

It's incumbent on us to make our own educations, and there is time to do that and reimbursement is available.

Overall compensation for your work

I am not at all paid enough to live in the region in which I work. I SHOULD be able to make ends meet with my salary, but the greater Boston area insists on being expensive.

Office / Work Environment

I mean, it's not uncomfortable in the traditional sense, but it wears on you to have to commute to work in this region, and I count commutes as part of the work environment. Before I got approved to work from home twice a week, it was a part time job driving to and from work, and I only live 14 miles from my office.

Environmental Friendliness

We run a tight ship, and facilities are always on the ball.

Work-Life Balance

We have lots of freedom to pursue education outside our proprietary "university," and my manager is very understanding of my life's needs outside the office

Company Image

I don't feel valued and I don't feel my job adds much of anything that someone else couldn't do, which isn't entirely fair to my employer, but I mean it in more of the sense that there would be no reason to hire someone to take my place if I were to leave. I also don't feel like I'd be fired tomorrow, which in a weird way is uncomfortable, like i'm not even noticed.

Many offices are single-floor, and all of them have elevators and ramps and some have braille.

We are regularly educated on emergency procedures, HIPPA guidelines, corporate guidelines, and information security practices.

Challenging Work

It's a pretty healthy workload which also allows for a lot of time for training and continuing education, which I've engaged in in order to make my job more challenging.

All makes and models come through the doors.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Stop pretending like there isn't money to pay people what they should be paid not just for the work they do, but so they can live in the area where they are paid to do the work they do. Stop pretending that a salary is based on national averages or that you should work harder, no, if you don't pay enough to live, people will make money elsewhere, and on company time too.

What I like about the company

It's neat to have been part of an expansion that made Steward a national network, and to have built some standard reports and reporting procedures for the network to use. Some of my analyses and infographics have been featured in professional journals too.

What I dislike about the company

I'm not a fan of how impersonal our communication has become. I haven't seen my manger in person in over a year. Even some semi-regular lunch and brainstorm meetings would be a nice change.
