The company used to be great. But now the employees are largely just considered an expense that should be outsourced.

Former EmployeeWorked in IT at Stryker in Portage, MI.

What I like

The individuals I worked with were really second to none.

What I dislike

The change in attitude of, “(over)work them until they quite”.

Suggestions for improvement

The company should get back to its roots. Caring more about its employees, Doctor’s, and patients. Rather then how you look on Wall Street each month.

Work-Life Balance

As long as work is your life, than you’ll have balance.

Overall compensation for your work

Under paid and over worked. Good chance you’ll work 60+ hours and only get paid for 45.

After 6 years, this continues to be a great company to work for. Remarkable job mobility and advancement opportunities.

Company Culture

The Mission Statement isn't just words on the wall. Stryker employees really walk-the-walk in making sure that "Together with our customers, we are driven to make healthcare better."

Company Image

There is great pride in contributing to the life changing and life saving products we make, and the overwhelming committment to quality.

Work-Life Balance

Lots of flexibility to accomodate family needs.

Career Development

Paid training and education plans, formal development plans, and a culture of career mobility and advancement means the sky is the limit.

Inclusive / Diverse

Stryker really gets this right. I've never seen an organization more committed.

Environmental Friendliness

Many locations are LEED certified. Keeping used medical devices out of the landfill is part of Stryker's business model.

Teamwork

We win together and share the celebration.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I have never seen anything that even hints at a negative bias. And I'm and expert in this area.

Support from management

Management is always available and welcomes employee input.

Office / Work Environment

Lots of "open-plan" which is not my personal favorite. But facilities are comfortable with many amenities: Cafe, gym, recreation room, wakling trails....

Challenging Work

Challenging and rewarding. With lots of people around you to make sure you succeed.

Internal Communication

Very open and transparent.

Gender Equality

Stryker really gets this right. I've never seen an organization more committed.

Freedom to work independently

Be careful here, if you see a problem, you will probably own the solution.

I work very hard at my executive assistant position. My job includes alot of duties that were never in job description.

EmployeeWorked at Stryker in Mahwah, NJ at the time of review.

What I like

The only good things I can say is the pay is competitive and I can work from home from time to time. The location is excellent, and I travel to alot of places to set up meetings.

What I dislike

I disapprove of the way I am treated by my manager. I always feel like he is trying to find an excuse to fire me, instead of telling me that I am doing a good job. It's maddening and depressing. A good manager could inspire the employees to work harder, better. They really need to control management better in regard to how the employees are treated and developed.

Suggestions for improvement

There should be specific policies regarding job descriptions, better control of overtime, and programs to grow and develop the employees. Employees should be able to feel comfortable in their jobs and not be afraid.

Company Culture

Difficult to work for. Alot of game playing.

Stryker is an amazing company to work for. They care about their employees, their customers, their community.

EmployeeWorked at Stryker Corporation in Portage, MI at the time of review.

What I like

Stryker spends much energy, time, and resourcing to take care of the employees, customers and community. There is an amazing program that Stryker does annually with Operation Smile. They sponsor employees to go on a mission with the Operational Smile team for a week where children with cleft palettes have corrective surgery in countries that healthcare is un-affordable or inaccessible. They also donate equipment to help make the surgeries possible and help raise funds throughout the year to help support the organization on their missions. One of my favorite things the company does that helps it's employees, it's social responsibility, and children that would otherwise not have the ability to correct this birth defect.

What I dislike

Diversity. Top leadership levels there is really a lack of race and gender diversity that could be more inclusive and Stryker would benefit from more diverse leadership.

Suggestions for improvement

The only improvement that is needed, which may have been addressed with the building of a new building, is disability accessibility. Right now, not all doors can be opened easily if help is needed, main doors, yes, but not necessarily interior doors.

EmployeeWorked at Stryker in Kalamazoo, MI at the time of review.

What I like

The best thing is definitely the culture. I have made some great friends at work that I know will be in my life for a long time. They do their best to bring people in that are going to make it a great place to work.

What I dislike

Mandatory overtime when we need to hit numbers. Keeping people away from their families is not okay. Work does not come first and sometimes they expect you to put it first.

Suggestions for improvement

We have a big problem with bringing in good temps. Compared to other similar companies in the area we have a pretty low starting pay and I think that if we raised the wages it would attract better employees and make the entire place a better place to work.
