There was a lot of blatant racism in my shop that made me very uncomfortable
Support from management
Sometimes I would, other times requests would be ignored
There wasn't really anything of the sort. If there was a bad employee everyone would just gang up on them until they were gone.
Freedom to work independently
You were definitely expected to be pretty independent and people would even be alone for hours
Manager communication was nonexistent because the owner never really came to the store and the manager was only there 2 or 3 days a week
There was only one guy at my store, so sure
Attitude towards older colleagues
We had a few older employees and they were treated the same
The only 'next step' would be to open a franchise
Overall compensation for your work
Started at a decent rate, but think I deserved more for all the effort and time i put in
Office / Work Environment
There were a few a.c. problems, but they got fixed in a decent timeframe
So much trash and waste. But we did recycle cardboard
Schedule accommodations were poorly handled simply because we didnt have enough staff to cover everyone
Definitely could have done without the racism, but the company as a whole is fine i guess
Too much rotation of staff
As a customer, sure, as an employee however more things could have happened
Minimal safety training, multiple workplace injuries while I was there
Making sandwiches is easy enough, but as the opener there was a lot more to do every day
Inclusive / Diverse
The year I was there we only hired one PoC, and while management acted supportive of disabilities there were never any attempts at reasonable accommodations
Suggestions for improvement
- More regulated training, new equipment, anti fatigue mats should literally be in any standing workplace. Speaking of standing, however, there should definitely be an area in the back to sit down for a few.
What I like about the company
I really liked the job when I started. We had a decent staff and lots of regulars. I liked making sandwhiches and figuring out new combos. Learning to open was a great opportunity.
What I dislike about the company
I think that training could have been more regulated and monitored instead of just being on the last hire to figure out. I think that they are starting do replace old outdated equipment which will be a good fresh start.
