There is a few attempts to have a good positive culture, but there is not enough time or resources or people to help encourage a culture. Much or the culture is to just work and get things done.
Support from management
Leadership just wants to get things done and will often shorten time frames and due dates while adding more break-fix and unexpected situations and then add more meetings, expecting the same amount of work to be done with less time.
Freedom to work independently
Sometimes micromanaged over nothing, but told at the same time the need to build our own business and service our customers. Combine this with daily shifting priorities it makes it difficult to be autonomous.
TV's for general info for the factory floor, plus a homepage. Both of which could be improved, and also have stale information. Management often talks about the need for more communication and then act as if they have communicated the important information already.
its a factory, and has old school factory mentality, but nothing sexist, but not a place that many women would want
Attitude towards older colleagues
the attitude is that they are right always without question and know exactly what they are talking about and it makes sense at all times and at all costs regardless of actual facts or what the situation is...so its awesome if you are over 60
nothing is available...they say they will train you and help, but its just sending to other places only to be pulled out because there is not enough staff to help with other issues and then they can claim they sent people for training. managers went to development training which was just someone else asking how it was going and not actually giving direction, so there are many horrible managers that don't know how to manage there.
Overall compensation for your work
benefits are good, pay is decent, but hours and expectations are out of control regardless of that
Office / Work Environment
Many recently renovated office spaces and still ongoing. However, its still a factory and there is few windows. Comfort changes from location to location in the factory and the area.
They target zero emissions and zero waste to landfill. Natural resources used as much as possible with as little reuse and little waste as possible. Overall clean place, but needs to have clear areas for bottles, recycle and garbage...currently just three bins.
Too much demand to work more than 10 hours a day. Expected to work 7-5 daily and be early and leave late and often work through lunch for meetings or just to get actual work done. Then a need to be on-call for issues.
i am proud to work for them, but because of recent name changes, no one knows who they are and 'older' people internally don't understand how people don't know that. even the local news refused coverage of some major events not knowing who the company was.
if you can withstand being yelled at all the time and constant working, then you will never need to leave. otherwise, because of constant need of work and more work and constant yelling and screaming and swearing because of a lack of work and because timelines are shortened daily, there is a feeling that anyone could be let go at any time. the reality is though that people only leave because they can't handle the ridiculousness of that push back
its a factory and there is not much need for handicap accessible areas. the front offices are completely handicap accessible.
they are very safe and try to focus on safety
Some of the challenge comes from old or legacy systems that are no longer supported still needing to be supported because there is no alternative. For instance, MS Access 2003 DBs, Windows NT 3.1, Oracle 9, VB 5 and 6 apps and more.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diversity is not an issue and not addressed in a good way. Its acknowledged, but the focus is on the need for actual production and ideas. Many managers though have been around too long and are not open to new ideas and new opinions and new technology and new processes, though they say they are.
Suggestions for improvement
- Communication and effective communication and more workers to support all aspects of the factory and more intelligent people in management.
What I like about the company
They are newer and lots of room for growth and change, however there is still a lot of changes that need to be done.
What I dislike about the company
There is still many changes, especially management changes, that need to be done and more clear direction.
