You may be the master of your domain if it meets corporate ideals.
You can expect to know how to do your job and what is expected. Information and exchange is one way toward corporate.
No direct knowledge in this area.
Attitude towards older colleagues
As you get older make sure you are not in too much debt. Being replaced after you are 50+ is no longer alarming to your co-workers.
Get it in writing or you may pay for that company approved education all on our own. There is also a sink or swim attitude for many positions.
Overall compensation for your work
Competitive salaries and benefits within their industry. With age comes a lack of raises and no cost of living adjustments.
Office / Work Environment
Sun does an admirable job in the work place as far as supplying what you need to do the job.
Terrible in the mid to late 1980's. Some improvement in environmental since then.
Company position changes with their needs not employee.
I am sure you can find someone to defend both the positive and negative of this issue. After 30+ years my opinion that it is image over reality.
Some positions and places are more secure than others. However, you can be replaced without cause anytime.
There are many accidents at Sun. Company is just now putting resources to bring this in line to their industry.
Your sense of accomplishment needs to come from your knowing you did a good job.

- The company is owned by the Japanese but North America is governed by Americans. The Japanese do a better job in dealing with crisis and employee relations
What I like about the company
Printing ink is a varied and challenging field. Relationship with printers and converters increase the opportunity to learn.
What I dislike about the company
The lack of checks and balances for how older workers are treated and/or dismissed. The reaction time to problems or crisis by corporate. Company is so large inertia is a problem in situations where "time is of the essence".
