Support from management

There was minimal support. Buy your own tools, software, etc.

Internal Communication

Feedback was exceptionally hard to get. Product and idea pitches were most often met with silence.

Career Development

It was difficult to push the company forward. As soon as something "worked" it was essentially locked in. Unless you would invest in the tools and do the work in your own time to prove something was viable it was not to be pursued.

Overall compensation for your work

There were no benefits. Health insurance and retirement benefits were promised in the offer letter but they were both rescinded due to what was claimed to be budget reasons. Health insurance became a $200 stipend and promised retirement benefits were denied. Vacation time was often made unavailable.

Office / Work Environment

Work area had minimal climate control. Had to provide my own heater for the winter months, and fans for summer months

Work-Life Balance

70 hour weeks were common. Extremely hard to take time off. When work was slow it was a race to push sales. When work was fast deadlines prevented taking any time.

Company Image

It's a mixed bag. Quite often those that leave do so due to pay, benefits, and treatment.

Job Security

Highly depends

Handicapped Accessibility

If it's not something that's currently on hand, typically you had to buy your own. This included engineering software.

Workplace Safety

OSHA violations were regularly made fun of and not adhered to.

Challenging Work

The work was indeed challenging.

Inclusive / Diverse

There was definitely a demographic that was HR strictly hired. Poor health that could cause one to miss work was one of the excuses not to hire a couple potential employees.

Suggestions for improvement

  • To invest in your employees, hire enough people to do the job in a reasonable amount of time, and to not segregate people based on their engineering backgrounds. I often felt like a second class citizen.

What I like about the company

The saving grace was that the work was unique and fun.

What I dislike about the company

The hours, lack of benefits, and respect were an unfortunate deal breaker.
