- Teco Coal Company15.Dec 2015
The company had 4 different work sites when I was employed there, I worked on all 4. The bosses for the most part were good and fair, one boss was terrible and belittled employees in a daily basis.
Support from management
The leadership of the company on a local level was poor at best!
The other employees with which I worked were great. Everyone helped everyone regardless of the situation.
Freedom to work independently
To a certain extent, but as is the case with everywhere, we had certain employees who were "special" and did not do certain things.
The only thing we were told was the production goals for the month.
I can't really answer this question fairly as to on the job site, we didn't have any women working on the jobs.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The company hired older people to work. As far as appreciating employees who had several years of service the company did whit regularity when I hired on but by the end of my career with them they did not at all. I was even told by a person of high level that "the time you have with the company doesn't mean anything anymore."
While I was there the company offered a lot of learning experiences for those who wanted it.
Overall compensation for your work
The salary was the best in the area, and the benefits were the best in the area as well.
Office / Work Environment
Conditions depended on the weather, but the heavy equipment we used wasn't maintained very well.
For the most part the company was good.
The company was good in giving a day off whenever you needed it as long as you had a vacation day or sick day to cover it.
The image of Teco Coal has suffered severely in the last 3-4 years.
I didn't feel like my job was stable in the last 2-3 years. Most of that has to do with the coal industry being down as a whole. Some of that had to do with management personnel as well.
The company was big on safety and offered training as needed.
I was always proud of the work I done when with the company. If you don't have pride in your work then you do a poor job in my opinion. I worked for the company for almost 12 years with no accidents or lost time injurys.
Inclusive / Diverse
To a certain extent.
Suggestions for improvement
- Put more focus on the actual " men who do the work" and less on the people who make twice the money and do very little of the work. The attitude toward hourly paid employees needs to change. They are people too not just a number.
What I like about the company
They offered good salary and benefits.
What I dislike about the company
Poor management, and lack of care for employees in the last several years.
The following benefits were offered to me
